Services
Throughout history human beings have used movement to heal. Movement is our first language and how we relate to ourselves and the world around us. Without this direct connection to the body we are missing our greatest ally. Because life has a way of impacting us in less than ideal ways, we are here to guide you back to optimal, balanced health through specific, guided movement.
The principles of natural movement inherent in the Classical Pilates Method is the lens through which we observe and address biomechanical inefficiencies. Using specific Pilates techniques, imagery, classical apparatus as well as "hands on" spotting and cueing, we analyze gait, posture and muscle imbalances and teach you how to take ownership of your movement practice.
Private Sessions are one-on-one sessions for those of you who crave attention and want specific personal attention or you are recovering from an injury, have multiple injuries or require customized movement training expertise. These sessions are all about you, your concerns about movement and focus entirely on supporting your movement practice.
It provides you with unique neuromuscular feedback through the use of specialized equipment and resistance springs to help you become more aware and to connect you more deeply to your movement practice. We guide you through awareness based semi-privates to advanced level group semi-privates and for intermediate practitioners, self directed workouts.
Pelvic floor muscles work harder than normal during pregnancy: they are required to support the weight of the growing baby. They are also softened by the effects of pregnancy hormones. Whether you give birth vaginally or by caesarean, your pelvic floor muscles will be impacted. Understanding the changes in your body and having the right guidance during pregnancy can help prevent exerting unnecessary pressure on your pelvic floor.

My RMT recommended Reform for posture/weakness issues and she was spot on. My posture, strength, and overall wellbeing have improved so much just from completing the Fundamentals course with Elsa. I also took a class with Olga and loved it. I'm really happy with the instruction and personalized corrections I get - it feels like 1:1 attention even in the group classes, and I like knowing I'm actually getting the full benefits of the class. This is the only time I have ever not dreaded exercise and actually enjoyed it!!

Marlene and her team are phenomenal - I spend most of my day in my car, and it takes it toll on my body! I have noticed a complete change in my body since starting weekly sessions! Everything has started shifting into place and has improved my work out session and reduced my overall fatigue and stiffness from being in my car all the time. 110% recommend!

I was reluctant to commit since it's a bit pricier than other studios but you receive a lot of individual attention. Honestly for me, this is the only form of exercise where I'm not constantly looking at the clock and counting down the minutes until it is over. Can't wait to continue working with them to improve my practice.

Marlene is a truly committed and enthusiastic instructor. I have always been apprehensive about body work such as pilates due to an extensive spinal fusion from scoliosis surgery, plus neurological difficulties, but Marlene does extensive homework to help her clients as best as she can. Through modifications to classic pilates exercises and honing in on specific muscles, not only have I felt improvement in my strength but my day to day movements too. I have been taking regular private classes with her for a couple of months now and plan on continuing for as long as I can!

Reform Pilates is a great studio in a convenient location (just a couple blocks away from Waterfront Station, in Gastown). Marlene is a Pilates instructor's Pilates instructor. I know, as it's my profession as well and Marlene is one of the few instructors in this city that I choose to go to in order to deepen my own embodiment of Pilates.

I have been waiting for a classical studio to open downtown, and was so happy when Marlene opened Reform Pilates!
Marlene is a very knowledgable teacher, and knows how to get the best out of her students. I would recommend this studio to anyone. Be it for groups, or privates. I have had both, and have loved every session. The space is beautiful too!!!

I began in Pilates and working with Marlene almost two years ago to rehab a hip injury; however, she also noticed several other areas of my body--feet, knees, shoulders--where my patterns of movement were not serving me well. In my weekly private sessions, we focus on continuing to change those patterns and increasing my strength and flexibility. I also get a lot out of her Pilates mat classes.
I feel Marlene is a fantastic teacher; she is knowledgeable about Pilates and how the body moves as well as being encouraging and very personable. Her studio space is bright and cozy and has a wide assortment

I have been practicing Pilates with Marlene in the last 7 months and I absolutely recommend her. She is very attentive, caring, and professional. She is well trained and highly experienced, and at the same time, completely open to feedback and adjusting the exercise to my need.
Marlene has a genuine personality and I have never seen her do a sales pitch or up-sell anything. I wish her all the luck with her brand new and well-equipped studio.
Among many exercises I tried, I have found Pilates the most effective for building core strength and awareness about involved muscles. It has helped me correct

I work on my feet all day and suffer with my back & shoulders, Marlene pinpointed the troubled areas by just looking at my stance. Would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful studio. I felt relief in the space of an hour & now a repeat client. Marlene is amazing and keeps you motivated throughout!

A work related injury to my back caused me to seek out a physiotherapist for treatment which resulted in a referral to Marlene for rehabilitation work using (Clinical) Pilates. I had heard of Pilates but knew little about it; however, I have since formed an appreciation for the focus it places on strengthening your core muscles and developing an awareness between body and mind. I believe the exercises--designed to develop both strength, flexibility, and awareness--will helpme to mitigate future injurys at work and better enjoy the activities I adore such as: biking, hiking, hockey, and skiing.

I started Pilates because chronic knee problems had made it difficult to even walk. I have found that the emphasis on core stability and exacting exercises for my whole body have been the best therapy, now becoming an ongoing practice. Marlene combines a sense of humour, an appreciation of her clients and an unwavering insistence that we work hard and accurately. When I walk away from class I can feel the changes in my body!

As I entered my mid forties, general wear-and-tear, along with poor posture and less-than-ideal movement patterns, were no longer things I could blithely ignore. When I began competitive bodybuilding, these small discomforts became amplified under heavy weights and higher training volumes.
With Marlene’s expert guidance, I’ve seen improvements in my posture and overall flexibility, as well as my deep core strength and function (I have a WAIST for the first time in my life!).I continue to learn how to breathe properly, which remains a challenge and a marvel to me. I move and feel better
