Vero Bistro Moderne
We would like to say something about Vero, about who we are and why we are in the restaurant business and also about the goals we pursue. The word "Vero" in Italian means "true". We like to be creative but at the same we strive for bringing to our customers the true heart of the different cuisines of Italy and Spain and also from some regions of France.

Chef Jenny travels to Europe every year not only to learn from great European chefs to hone her skills but also to get thoroughly acquainted with the traditional cuisines from the different culinary regions in Italy, Spain and also France.

Finally try Vero Bistro! The lamb is so amazing ! The Lamb would get 10 star, so sad that I can only rate it 5 star. The pasta taste so good too, it’s a little spicy but make it perfect! The seafood was so so so good! I gonna bring my family come and try these food again!
These food are so so so good! Everyone should come and try! Calgary 1st restaurant in my heart forever! By the way, the desserts are so tasty too , dark chocolate cake and mango cheese cake will impress you!

We've made this our annual anniversary restaurant because we love trying out their new menu items as we never leave disappointed. The chefs behind this kitchen know what they're doing and are doing it extremely well! The flavour profiles are there and we can never get enough!

Celebrated the Holidays with the Girlfriend here,
The special Mussels and Frites w/ garlic was amazing.
She was super in love with her veal pasta and I was okay with the mushroom pasta I had. Excited to try other things next time.

Incredible food and service. Well worth the money you pay for the quality of dishes and portion sizes. Chad was my waiter and he was super friendly, helpful, and was willing to take pictures for us.
Pictures below: Sweet-potato Gnocchi with arugula and seared pork, surf and turf (steak, lamb chops, lobster tail other one was already on my plate)
Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.

This place is fantastic. We have repeatedly ordered their takeaway specials through Covid when we couldn't eat out, and they are always delicious with lots of variety and a generous amount of food.
We finally went back to dine in again with one of our friends and had an amazing meal with great service. My wife remembered the seafood platter from her last in-person visit but it wasn't on the menu any longer. She just mentioned it, and the waiter went to the back and talked to the chef and they made up a seafood platter specially for us.
I would recommend this place to anyone.

We went here for our anniversary (first time). We had the tasting menu (which was quite reasonably priced for a tasting menu) . The server was attentive without being intrusive. The food and service were great. They went the extra mile- they made us feel special and that is a lost art is this day and age!

Our first time visiting here! Started with a starter biscuit, it looked and tasted too fancy for me.. we order the 2 people meal, and got this summer special salad. It was the best salad I've had all my life!! And we ended with lamb meat, lobster pasta and steak! It was delicious except for the fact that I don't like lamb meat.. after we were done, we were able to take it home😭 Their atmosphere was really nice to go for a date!!

Amazing, we've been back about 4 times with no plans to stop. The meals are always phenomenal and and service excellent! If you can try the chefs tasting menu or the surf and turf for 2(in the photo). All the flavors work so well together, can't wait to go back

Went for a special occasion after I heard a lot of good things from friends and I was not disappointed. It’s not a big place but I find it adds to the atmosphere and charm. The service was great as our server checked in on us periodically. We ordered the seafood platter, steak & frites and the lamb chops. The platter was a great assortment of different seafoods, I loved the lobster and the scallops. Make sure to ask for some bread to dip in the broth. The steak was cooked perfectly and the truffle fries were a hit at the table.
I’ll definitely be back!

Calgary is not short of good brunch spots and this one is definitely one to keep on the roster. The portions are generous and a sight for sore eyes. Come with an appetite and whatever you get make sure it comes with Montreal meat and their house made croissants.

Had brunch here and made a reservation beforehand. Before I had tried to walk in on a weekend and it was full so definitely make a reservation.

The service was fantastic - friendly and not overbearing at all.

The food was fairly priced, similar to OEB.

Flavour of the food itself was wonderful, great presentation and delicious. I really enjoyed the mushroom skillet, and it came with a pastry on the side. The pastry was perfectly baked and fluffy.

Sweet potato gnocchi was very chewy and yummy too, although I enjoyed the skillet much more.

Seating is limited and the space is very charming

Vero is one of my favourite restaurants to go for weekend brunch! They're open on Friday to Sunday for brunch and it's always good.

My favourite is the vero traditional which comes with soft poached eggs in a tomato sauce, croissant, sausage and a salad. Their croissant is so good! It's flaky and delicious and could literally eat it everyday

I also love their benes! They serve them on the same croissant. I like the wild boar bacon one the best!

It's not a lot of food but every ingredient tastes fresh and delicious and the quality is different! It's a bit more pricey

This was one of the first places I wanted to visit when I arrived in Calgary! I walked in around 5pm and was told that they only had a set 3 course menu today for $45, so I figured why not! There were only a few tables in the restaurant at that point in time, but I was told they usually get busy later and you need a reservation. The servers were attentive, acted very professional and knowledgeable about the food.

I had a set three course meal which started with a salad, and some chicken pate with a crunchy dried baguette/cracker. The salad was decent - lettuce, cabbage, beets, shredded carrots

Very nice restaurant. On Tuesdays they don't have the a la carte menu. This is the day the chef decided to get creative with 2 dishes to choose from. The 3 course meal is $45. So if you want specific things from the menu Tuesday isn't the day to go & experiment.

This place is a must go in Calgary. The food and the service was excellent. I would make sure to have a reservation that way you don't wait to have a meal here. We went for brunch and honestly I wanted to lick the plate since it was so yummy. I had the pork Milanese Benedict over a flaky croissant, and it was the best decision. It came with some roasted potatoes and I haven't had such good potatoes in a while. I also got to try the Baos and they have been one of the best. The dough was cooked perfect and the filling was so flavorful. The whole menu sounded A+ and it was so hard to come

I had heard great things about Vero Bistro before my visit and managed to secure a table for my boyfriend and I for their Steak & Frites Wednesday special - a 7oz 28 day AAA grass fed steak with chimichurri butter on a bed of white truffle parmesan fries with a salad and dessert to start, all for $45/per guest. We opted to upgrade to a 12oz cut for ~ $10 more. The alternative entree offered was a seafood paella!

Drinks: My boyfriend tried the "new morning" beer recommended to us by our server who complimented the beer on the unique aftertaste. He really enjoyed it! I wanted a bellini

Vero Bistro is unparalleled in the city of Calgary. The food is exceptional, the ambiance is quaint and inviting, the staff are warm and friendly. I really can not speak highly enough of this establishment. I highly recommend their brunch service - the price of the meal is reasonably-comparable to anywhere that offers a sit-down breakfast but the taste, presentation, and table-service is unmatched. I am not ashamed to admit that I frequently (probably about one weekend per month) partake in Vero's brunch service. I think that I've ordered just about everything on that menu and have never

What I got: Set Course during the Big Taste event ($30-35)

Pros:
- We came as a large group of 8 people and found seats immediately on a weeknight. The chef offered delicious complementary meatballs, which was such a hospitable gesture.
- The steak would probably be the best I've tried in Calgary. I've also been to Saltlik and what I liked about this steak was that it was small but well marinated throughout. Sometimes when I eat a massive rare steak, the raw tastes good at first but i start to get sick of it. Not with this one.
- Fries were the best I've tried- crispy on the outside

We came here while exploring our favorite Kensington area. It was 11 a.m. Sunday morning and we're looking for a place to have brunch. This place was perfect. The ambiance of the restaurant is so cool. It's a good surprise from what you're able to see from the outside. They serve good quality food that's organic, very tastey, and good value. We had the Vero traditional- green salad, Croissant, 2 eggs benny, and bison sausage and the skillet meatballs that also came with a croissant. I also ordered their peach frizz which was a very refreshing drink. My husband loved his meatballs

Vero is an intimate restaurant located in the Kensington neighbourhood. I was here for the big taste and the restaurant was fully packed on a Friday afternoon. I had to circle a few times for a metered parking spot but it was manageable.

The appy platter which came with two bruschettas, prawns and veal meatballs was great. I enjoyed the porcini and truffle bruschetta the most - I can probably eat a whole plate of that by myself :-) As for the mains, I ordered the beef short ribs with sweet potato gnocchi. The gnocchi had good flavour and texture while the short ribs was tender and flavourful

Came here on a Wednesday night where they had a set 3 course menu. The server impressed us as she remembered the entire menu in great detail.
I didn't plan on drinking so I had a peach purée beverage with white cranberry and soda. This was more of a breakfast beverage IMO. The choice for dinner was a salad or veal ravioli/steak frites or paella and dessert. I chose the veal ravioli in a sage sauce and the steak frites with garlic truffle butter. The flavors were amazing, rich sauce and the steak was melt in your mouth. I almost didn't believe it was steak! The chef sent out a dish of

Decided to go here for the big taste week. Glad we did! Had a lovely lunch with my coworker. Chili Prawns, meatballs and a toast with two toppings. I had the sweet potato gnocchi with short rib and she had mussels. Absolutely deelish! Dessert was mango sorbet.

Definitely want to return for Wed night steak frites and Tues night open chef selection. I have eaten here before but never wrote a review as it was as before I joined Yelp. Service was spectacular and ambience is cozy and decadent - exactly what an upscale diner should be!

Huge fan of the brunch here. It's a couple bucks more than the standard price, but the food is worth every penny and more. I ordered the eggs benny with boar bacon and two huge prawns. The hollandaise sauce was light and buttery, not that yellow glop you get at some places. The croissant was homemade and flaked apart in separate layers. The bacon was really crispy and shattered when you bite into it. All the flavour and none of the grease. The tomatoes tasted like they were just picked from a garden, dotted with pesto. The egg was beautiful, the yolk firm but warm and creamy. I liked the addition

It's a tiny place but very worth the food.
I've been here several times now.

Menu changes constantly.

I especially like the red backdrop.and the huge bouquet of flowers near the bar, as well as the candles.definitely good for the atmosphere

Tuesday is a set menu - you don't choose. Which can be nice

Vero Bistro has been on our list of must do restaurants for a while - and only because we were waiting to be able to go on a Tuesday. Both of us were intrigued by 'no menu' Tuesday, and we were not disappointed.

We had choice of 2 salads - one with lentils and the other with confit duck. Each tried one and the duck was a clear winner. Think this may be the best duck I have ever tried. Would have eaten that salad another 2 times and gone home happy.

Mains was a choice of 3 options. I went with the short rib over potato + sweet potato gnochi - one of those portions where you think it

I've been on a gnocchi kick lately, so on my most recent brunch escapade with my lovely ladies, my heart and belly were set on the sweet potato and sunny side egg version that Vero had to offer.

I was almost swayed by the eggs benny (which a couple of the girls did get) but had to stay true to my desire. Microgreens garnished a heaping of gnocchi (that was complemented with wild boar bacon, walnuts and a maple butter) and a bright organic egg. There was a perfect balance of salty and sweet, and walnuts gave the dish a nice added texture.

Granted, it is a bit pricey here, but worth the splurge
