Top notch restaurant on the west end of Calgary that has it all. If you are looking for a dine in experience, the quality of food is like no other. If in a pinch for dinner, the market has everything to make life easy. Price point for quality of fresh homemade food is very reasonable.

Bring your appetite, sharing portions are quite large and tasty. 3 of us shared the always great ribeye, octopus pasta, and gnocchi with kale. Cleaned up the steak easy, pasta had a couple lunches left. Next time will go smaller size pastas. Good food here and on 4th street.

Worst service. They wouldn’t let me talk to the manager about our burnt dry chicken. They charge you $50 to bring in your own cake without letting you know they just put it on the bill called a dessert fee as if they made it. The manager is to busy for customers. Ridiculous!!

Came here for a birthday party, food was mediocre in comparison to downtown location. Chicken came out dry and over cooked and they added a charge on our bill without notifying us ahead of time. We asked to speak to the manager and she was too busy. I think her name was Ashley and we were told to email her. So basically “pay for the uneaten chicken and surprise charge on your bill and email us with your concerns!” Customer service is not a priority at this location. Go downtown!

Not sure what changed from when I last visited the restaurant. The rib steak tasted very disappointing compared to last time. It was burnt in some places creating a bitter after taste. And heavily seasoned with salt.
Veal was over cooked. And the mushroom side which it came with was cold and overly sour with vinegar.
Brussels sprouts were also very sour.
The whole meal was vinegary. I really need a good milky creamy something to balance it out but this was nowhere to be found. The bread basket which came with dinner service wasn’t enough to take out the sour taste.
I informed the restaurant

This used to our favourite Italian restaurant with great service and food (especially the meat), but our last visit was a miss and quite average, especially since we were celebrating a birthday occasion.
Meat: The rib eye steak was still good, but felt a little smaller than usual (maybe our perception). The accompanied greens for the rib eye was too sour (acidic). The veal we ordered was too dry and I don't feel it was worth the price (the accompanied mushroom was cold instead of sauteed).
On the plus side, both the linguine and tagliatelle were delicious, so kudos there!
However, the brussel

Surprised to see an Italian family style dining restaurant in Calgary! The premise has the restaurant on one side and marketplace on the other. The tables in the restaurant are nicely spaced apart. There is a cooking pot right in the middle. Huge wine selection too.
Overall food flavor is good and the ingredients are fresh. May be it was busy when I visited but some of the menu items could have been prepared better . The risotto was a bit undercooked. The mixed grill meat, particularly the chicken was overgrilled. Server very knowledgeable and friendly.

Service started out great them once the order was taken….downhill we go. Asked the server if we’ve ordered enough food, and he says no you’ll need more. The amount of food that we had to take home was crazy. Server quality checks the table and as I tell him that we want to order another dish…he walks away. Watching 3 of the 4 cooks wear their masks around their chins or under their noses was a nice touch. Finally when the cheque comes the server points out the recommended tip percentages at the bottom of the bill…. Classy. Spent over $400 and will not return.

The food was AMAZING and the service was top notch. I was there with a big group, the kitchen was able to accommodate my gluten allergies and made me feel like I wasn’t missing out. I am definitely going to go back and will be recommending the restaurant to my family and friends

I have eaten at Mercato West two times. Once on the restaurant side and once on the market side. The whole chicken meal was bland, like hospital food. My most recent meal was chicken parmagiana. It arrived on a cold plate that had a chip in it, and the chicken was covered with barely warm sauce. I want to like the restaurant, but...

When we travel to that part of the city, I usually talk my husband into stopping at Mercato’s to pickup some items for future meals at home. In November we stopped and purchased pasta sauce and my favourite,… the meatballs in the tomato sauce (3 dozen). Once home, froze 2 dozen and prepared the rest for dinner. Such a disappointment! Meatballs had large pieces (pea sized) of gristle. Now I’m stuck with the frozen meatballs with not a lot of enthusiasm to use them. Certainly will not be purchasing from there again. Expensive mistake.

In the past, we have enjoyed Mercato West even though they have always been pricey. Unfortunately yesterday we picked up a takeout order and we're extremely disappointed. We ordered the funghi pizza, the… arancini balls, brussel sprouts and the mushroom risotto. The pizza was extremely dry, to the point the mushrooms were overcooked and chewy. The mushroom risotto was terrible. It was dried out and had way too much Rosemary. The brussel sprouts were delicious and the arancini balls were perfect, however we ordered and paid for four and realized when we got home there were only three. For

This is the best restaurant on the west end. We've been going here since it opened and it never disappoints. Arancini, brussel sprouts, seafood linguini, veal chop, delicious! The food is always well seasoned and delectable. The service is always friendly and accommodating. Another Italian restaurant opened in the area so we gave it a try. The new restaurant's price point is a little less, but the food doesn't even compare to Mercato. I would definitely pay a little more for a far better experience overall.

I often enjoy amazing food and great service. Easily one of the best Italian restaurants in Calgary. I wish they would split bills for bigger groups.

Mercato is one of my favorite restaurants to go for bigger groups as everything comes out family style. However the last time I went, the quality of the food was truly disappointing. First off, we ordered the caprese salad and it was as though they forgot something (I think it was the pesto) so it just tasted really basic, like something I could have made at home. We also ordered the Tagliatelle pasta and the pasta was overcooked and broke apart. Lastly, we ordered the grande arrosto misto and the bistecca was completely burnt. We had to cut off the outside of the steak as the burnt tastes was

Mercato never disappoints. This is a great place to order a variety of dishes to share and try with a larger group. Their pastas come in individual sizes or larger (one and a half) portions to share. Pasta is fresh and simply divine, whichever one you order. Our personal favorite is the Tagliatelle, with a simple tomato sauce. It may seem to simple or unassuming but trust me- it's so fresh and packed with flavor. It's the only pasta that has reminded me of some of my favorite dishes from our travels to Italy. We have also tried their sausage entree which was also delicious and a huge

We have never been disappointed by a planned dinner or a last minute drop in here at Mercato West. The service, ambiance, wine list and of course the food is absolutely fantastic. The family style sharing is lovely and really makes the dining experience fun.

Food was good, I didn't eat much during my visit due to dietary restrictions but my group was quite happy with their meals. The main problem was the refusal to split the bills. We were a large group and we often dine together elsewhere where this isn't a problem. Only 5 of us out of 10 had shared the dishes on either side of the table, but they could not even split the bill into 2 parts - it was impossible to figure it out even with an accountant at the table. The waitress just kept coming over and asking "did you guys figure it out yet?" In the end, I ended up paying for more

The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is the CUSTOMER SERVICE. When you pay almost 50$ a dish, you expect more.
We had a reservation at 8:15 PM but when we arrived noticed that our table was not ready. We stood for 25 minutes, no offer to be seated at the bar or anywhere just for our table to be ready. We asked if we could sit at least at the bar while waiting for our table but they said it was full. Customer service ZERO but the food was great and atmosphere was really good.

We heard about this place through some friends and we decided to try it. We went for dinner at the West location. Very clean. We sat on the more casual side and we really liked the atmosphere. I liked how they beautifully laid out all the Italian meats and cheeses. It all looked so yummy. I had the Risotto and it was awesome. The meal was served hot and the flavors were tremendously good. The server was pleasant and was well versed with the menu. We had the lemon dessert and it was to die for.....everyone enjoyed it. And of course I was served a perfect latte. One thing I really liked about this

Lively and enjoyable,
The restaurant is spacious and can accommodate big groups,
but they do not accept individual orders for big groups, you all have to choose a few items on the menu and share (They compare it to a typical Italian large family dinner experience, which is really nice), but in every big group there are always a few people who are picky and end up not eating much and go home feeling ripped off and unhappy.
True story!

My first experience here was for dinner, which wasn't a very enjoyable experience. The food was over-priced, and the restaurant itself was very noisy making it had to hear the conversation. Not a great place to go and socialize. However, the service was good and the food itself was excellent.

My second go around was for lunch and I was very impressed. A grilled vegetable Panini was not only a good value, but it was delicious. A much different atmosphere for lunch, bright, not too noisy and a long community table making it easy to converse. I would definitely recommend going for lunch
