I've been getting my hair cut here for years and always leave happy with the results. It took me a while to find a place that could handle my hair type and I'm so glad I heard about Chura. The staff are very friendly and the salon is clean, neat and well-maintained.

I have been coming to Chura for the past 4 years and I have a good experience every time. All the hairstylists and staff are so friendly and accommodating. I get my haircuts with Chihiro or Mizuki, and they are both so sweet and amazing at their jobs. I recently got highlights (bleach and tone) with Chihiro and she took such good care of my hair, and she always explains how to take care of my hair at home and what products to use or avoid. Also, Chura's prices are unbeatable.

I am very happy with hair stylist Kanako , she did exactly what I like, I had my hair perm with very reasonable price for the salon located right downtown. The salon very clean and safety for COVID rules., will come back definitely.

Got a blue ombre here from Kanako and I absolutely love it! Kanako did an excellent job and doubled checked the bleaching process as well as the colours I wanted very thoroughly. The colours turned out exactly the way I wanted. There's some minor fading for the top, but that's normal for blue and especially when bleaching from dark black hair. My stylist offered a free touch up in a week though, so I'm glad she's really making sure I get the perfect shade!

Great service with a reasonable price. A hair cut would cost around 30$ before tip. The staff is super nice

Wanted to get a full curl perm, however Mizuki warned that it might not hold on my thin straight hair. They didn't even charge me the full amount as only a wave could be achieved because of my hair texture. Although I had to go in twice to get it as the guy who booked my appointment didn't know how long it will take. So make sure you get Mizuki on phone if you are going for a perm the first time. Their skills and customer services are way below compared to average Japanese hair salons in Japan. The hair salon had three staff when I went there and all of them had a zero customer service skills. When I went to Japan, all the people were very nice and they provided amazing customer services everywhere in Japan even though they don’t speak English very well. Chura hair salon staff were very impatient, rude, and even get angry at me for literally no reasons. I don’t know their name but I wanted to just leave when she said your hair is horrible and your hair wouldn’t get change at all lake

Overall very impressed and I am happy about my new look. The stylist was very nice and skilled and the gentleman at the reception was so kind too. The price was half of what I used to pay at other salons but the quality was just as good. Will definitely come back and I have already convinced a few friends to try this place too!

Whilst I'm only here for a short vacation from London UK, I am so glad to have had my hair done at Chura, Kensington Market. Chihiro is a very experienced and professional stylist. Gave me a lot of tips on how to style and care for my hair. I had my hair colored in the balayage way and am impressed with the outcome. Reasonable price. I will definitely come back. Highly recommended!!!!

First time here and it's amazing! When I called they said they accept appointment only but soon they called me back and managed to scoot me into their schedule. I had the spontaneous decision of cutting my hair and I was kinda nervous but the staff was super nice and they did an amazing job 💜 they were fast and very attentive to your needs! Their price was reasonable and affordable! I absolutely love my hair! I will definitely be coming back and recommending this place :)

Shin was great, cuz he provided me with some great authentic Japanese dining suggestions! Just jk, it's very obvious that's he's a skilled hairstylist, judging from the amount of back-to-back clients he has. But he's moving to Chura Crescendo in August so you'll get to meet him there. Where there's room for improvement is the towels/textiles they used while shampooing smelled a bit, which to be fair is not uncommon in hair salons. The presence of real roses inside the restroom a nice touch.

I've been going to Chura for at least 5 years and I felt like it's time for me to give them an actual good review. I don't really have a dedicated stylist but I feel that even if I get a random person they actually listen to what I want.

I do recommend that if you do go to Chura for the first time, ALWAYS share a picture. I think the problem with people who are leaving bad reviews for this salon is that they think it's a language barrier and they aren't communicating what they actually want.

As for the service, I've always booked my appointment and the wait has

I left the salon with tears and I will never come back again. It was my first time and it will be my last time as well. I have specifically told the hair dresser how much hair i wanted to keep. And I personally don't like layers much. Then she convinced me that it's okay to have a little layer. And I trusted her which was a big mistake. At the end, it turned out it's not what I wanted and my hair was a LOT shorter and thinner than I expected.

Sorry this style is not my type of thing. If you love to have thin hair, maybe that would be a perfect place for you.

Worth the wait. I called to book an appointment and the earliest available appointment was in 4 weeks. The staff are all so customer service oriented and the quantity of the cut was better than most high end salons.

The wash was pretty standard. Nothing to write home about, but professional nonetheless.

During the consultation, the stylist took the time to listen to what i wanted and then offered some suggestions. He double checked how much I wanted to take off. Even though English was not his first language, he was able to communicate clearly and understood what I wanted.

Horrible. Had a newb stylist - Risa. Didn't work out. She cut my hair (women) 4 inches shorter so instead of hair hanging over the shoulder it became a bob hair cut. It's been 2 months and I still look like crap.

No wonder I was able to get a last minute reservation with her.

Lesson learned.

Finding a hair stylist for Asian hair has ended. I lucked out from a cancellation and had Emi cut my hair without having to wait two weeks. I showed her a picture from my phone and she took a full hour of precision cutting. I'm impressed that they were prompt from sitting me down for a wash to completing my cut. My hair came out sooooo shiny and cleanly cut. Even after washing and styling it myself it looked so awesome. And I hate fussing with my hair.

I feel confident in seeing Emi again for a future pixie cut. It's hard to make Asian hair look feminine and soft with a pixie cut

For haircut go to Chura. Price is reasonable. They might not speak English though but what ever. I really like how they spend the the time to cut my hair. I had a digital perm done here once. For appointments, you have to book weeks in advance. Especially for after work hours. They get filled up pretty quickly.

It just that i am Asian and They know how to cut Asian hair the way it fits my head shape.

DO NOT COME HERE FOR A PERM.
I got a cut and digital perm here because the price was just too good - $120 after tax and tip. But my perm literally was gone after 2 weeks. Like my hair was completely pin straight. I had to come back, and they re-permed it for free, but after another few weeks it was completely gone. My boyfriend said it should've been called a "temp" not a perm!!
Other than that, the service was good, they did try to fix it by re-perming it for free but at the end of the day I basically paid $120 for a hair cut because the perm was non-existent.

Apologizing for my bad photo but Chura is actually a really nice place. It locates right across the Sephora in pacific centre and on the second floor.

The price was reasonable! I got both haircut and color and it doesn't cost over a hundred bucks plus tax and tips. Btw bleach would cost more; once was about 150 and twice would be 290.Depends on the color you choose.

Though English is not perfect, the staffs were really friendly especially a guy called Tomoko who did my friends' hair.

They were very busy during the weekend!!

I've already recommended this place to a few of my

I got a haircut here when I was up in Vancouver for the weekend. I booked about 4 days in advance. I didn't have a stylist in mind so I was taken to this back area...I am not sure if it's different than the front because it wasn't as set-up and didn't have tables and things. Is it a training area?

I don't remember my stylists' name but he was a young Japanese man. I wanted to cut off a few inches and asked for long layers and for him to make sure to focus on the bangs. He did a good job and was good about catering to my concerns. He was very friendly and my haircut

I like Chura quite a bit, I visit the original Hornby location.

--Update: Tomo has moved to a different Chura.--

My stylist of choice is Tomo. I only get cuts (no dye) so my experiences only reflect the haircutting aspects of his work.

I have very long wavy hair (down to lower back) and my biggest pet peeve with haircuts is losing volume/length by having too many layers cut in. What I like about Tomo is that he asked me how I wanted my hair to look and we talked about how different layers are going to act when my hair is no longer straightened.
He also consulted me on the best way to cut bangs

I've been to Chura multiple times, on & off, ever since my Japanese friend recommended the place to me several years ago. The pricing is extremely affordable & service / outcome is comparable to that which I have received at other downtown salons such as Zeal (also another of my faves!) & Suki's.

I usually just get any stylist here when I'm up for some radical experimentation with my hairstyle. Sometimes it's a hit-or-miss, as the staff turnover appears to be quite high. On my last visit I got Mai - who was very patient & made sure the end-result was exactly

Chura is definitely one of the more affordable hair salons in downtown and their services are comparable to some of the top salons. (although I haven't been to Suki's or Zeal yet, my friends say that the switch to Chura was the right choice!)

Anyways, I meant to review Chura earlier before I switched salons, but I wanted to give my insight since I mentioned Chura in my Tsubaki review.

I would say that Chura is definitely the place to go if you want good service and a nice scalp massage with premium products. The stylists are all very friendly and skilled, while the salon itself is

My hair was getting out of control and so I decided to get a quick trim at Chura. Since I preferred morning times, it was relatively easy for me to book an appointment. It was my first time there, so I did not have a stylist of choice.

A skinny girl with short red hair was my stylist. Her English was fluent, which was a bonus. However, she did not have much face expression and was silent throughout the haircut. Since it was morning, I decided it was due to the lack of coffee.

The trim had a really good result. My hair was shorter and way easier to manage, she even helped me adjust my hair for

When I lived in Vancouver, Chura was my go- to salon. Now that I live in LA, when I know that I'm going to visit Vancouver in the near future, I book an appointment at Chura and wait to get my hair done during my trip. Basically, I travel from LA to get my hair done at Chura. That says a lot. I'm not saying that places in LA aren't as good but Chura has consistently provided excellent service at reasonable prices and that is why I still come back even though I don't live in Van!

My digital perm + haircut + wash = $120. For the amount of work the digital perm takes, the attention
