Which location do you work? I work at both locations, the Beltline on Sundays and the Downtown location on Stephens Ave most of the week. What is your favourite thing to do in hair industry? My favourite things include; hair colouring, texturized/shattered Lob Hairstyles, and big colour transformations.
Since immigrating to Canada from Japan in 2006, Kiyoshi's styling career and clients have exploded. His passion for hair and for creativity is well-demonstrated in his cutting and colouring techniques, which never cease to provide his clients with a new sense of style and confidence. Tomomi is a talented stylist who gained her training and most of her experience working in Japan.

The stylist was professional and sincere. The scalp treatment add-on (additional service) was the best, especially the scalp massage. Always feeling refreshed after the service.
Most of the time the appointment was on time so no need to wait while paid for parking. The environment was comfortable and individual stains are physically distant.
I always come back for the next appointment and will definitely recommend to others.

I was not happy with the quality of my haircut and wave perm. I waited two days to shampoo my hair and saw almost no difference in the way my hair looks, which was confusing given that I sat in the salon for… more than 2 hours and could smell the chemicals in my hair after the shampoo. I chose ETCH because I was looking for a salon and/or stylist specializing in Asian hair, but I myself am not Japanese nor do I speak the language. I was surprised by my stylist's low level of English ability, which created a language barrier that led to a haircut and perm that I am not happy with.

I went here a few weeks ago on recommendation from my cousin, and I left with a fairly good experience. I went for a balayage and a cut with Zxyro, and he was very accommodating to what I wanted to do. He made sure to ask questions, and even thought of how my upcoming cruise would affect my hair color and brought it to my attention. Through the… process of coloring my hair, I noticed he was very patient and detailed. I never felt like he rushed through things, even when the color and cut went a little past closing time. I am very happy with the coloring of my hair, however, the haircut portion

Came in for a haircut today and it was without a doubt a 5-star experience. I had to change my appointment time around a couple of times as i was driving in from out of town and got in only 30mins prior to closing time but the staff were really graceful and professional when I arrived. The stylist (I forgot to get her name) has a really good eye… and knew perfectly what I wanted from a few pictures that I showed her. She also did not rush through the haircut even though it was close to closing time. Truly professional stylist who obviously takes pride in her work. Highly recommend!

I’ve been going to Kioshi for years and have never been disappointed. We recently moved and decided to try a new salon to avoid the long drive to Etch. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE!!!!. My hair was terribly damaged and the stylist couldn’t even cut the length in a straight line. Plus, I paid more than what I ever paid at Etch. I went back to Kioshi this week and he’s repairing the damage and gave me a beautiful cut and colour - just like always. I will continue going to Etch and can highly recommend it to anyone!

I have never been more disappointed with my hair.... I came here in March and was devastated... it is now November and I have had numerous color corrections elsewhere which have still failed to correct the problem that Etch started. I tried to go lighter ( 1-2 shades). I am well aware that going lighter is a process that takes several appointments. After one appointment my hair was a patchy bleached mess. My hair has been naturally curly all my life and my favourite part about my physical appearance.... it will no longer curl as a result of Etch frying it. As upset as I am - the staff were pleasant

After 4 months, I am definitely disappointed.
Firstly, I dyed my hair on my own (just color, no bleaching) and the color lasted almost 2 months and faded to a nice lavender shade. I'm not sure what dye was used at the salon, but if it's less effective than the one I picked up from Sally's, that's disappointing.
Secondly, I noticed at the one month mark just how absolutely AWFUL my layers are!!!! The back of my head is longer than the bottom of my head. How did that happen???

I went in for a consultation with Zxyro prior to getting my hair done. My natural hair is black and curly. I was looking to lighten up my hair and add a pastel blue/purple color to it. Zxyro was very confident when he told me that we would be able to get it to the desired color. He informed me of how great the products that they use at their salon are and how it would leave minimal damage to the hair when bleaching. I was of course very excited to hear this as I have always been TERRIFIED of bleaching my hair for that very reason.

Love love LOVED my first experience at Etch today! I saw Brooke for the $100 cut & color (such a good deal) and she was friendly, professional (but still super funny & nice) and did an amazing job.
I have been dying my hair black for 23 years using drugstore color, and Brooke did a great job lifting some of the black out so I can eventually (baby steps) be back to my natural color! She gave me a great haircut too!
The salon was very clean and modern, and the music was awesome - everyone was happy, and it was a steady stream of customers!

Only the owner do listen to and cut according to how you want them to cut and style. No other stylist at this place can deliver as good as the owner. I'm a little biased here but I personally believe there is a higher chance that your hair will turn out great if you choose male hair stylist, of course I've tried male stylist in the past at other places and cut horrible hair. just the higher probability than female hair stylist.
I would highly recommend Etch over the other Asian hair salons
e.g X-treme Hair Salon (Harvest Hills Blvd NE), Shear Synergy Salon (Chinatown) and to name a few
