I got my hair cut by Afina over a month ago, and I'm still obsessed! My hair is usually flat and boring, but the cut Afina gave me is so voluminous and flippy (with zero effort on my end). It's been over a month and it still has that fresh cut feeling!
This was also my first cut post-pandemic, and I felt very safe. There were only 4 of us in the room, and my seat was right next to an open door. Everyone wore masks.
Overall very happy!

After a year-and-a-half of being outside of Toronto, I went back for my first haircut and Troy STILL remembered me. Truly a first-class experience with incredible attention to detail. You can tell Troy really, really cares about his clients and takes time to listen to what you want -- plus he is easy to talk to. I would recommend to anyone.

After a year of salons being closed I was so excited to finally get my hair cut, and after reading the raving reviews decided to pick this salon and requested an appointment with Troy. I showed him multiple reference photos and was very clear that I was looking for long layers and curtain bangs, but unfortunately left with barley noticeable layers and two very large chunks of hair that were claimed to be the curtain bangs. It was honestly the worst haircut I got in my life, he didn't listen to what I asked for and did something very different. My hair is naturally wavy and I asked for a straight cut, but he layered it and now I have to straighten it all the time or they look really awful. It's my fault for not stopping him, but I though he knows what he is doing :(

I didn't want to give a bad review and I was hoping that it will look better after it grows out a bit, but it's been a few months and it just keeps looking worse.

Troy did an amazing job, he was friendly and very professional. He cut my hair as I requested and it looks amazing! I went during the pandemic but felt very safe because the studio limits the number of people and sanitizes everything between clients. I'll definitely be going back again!

I had virgin hair and went to get balayage done with Afina. She made sure I wasnt nervous at all and explained/showed me all the colours before doing anything to my hair. After I went home I was so self conscious that the balayage went too high on my head (it definitely didn't but being a first timer with dye I was not feeling it). So I went back a couple days later and she toned the top of my head darker and didn't make me feel bad about it at all! Now I love love love my hair.

Have been going here for a little over a year now. Troy, the owner has cut my hair in the past and done a beautiful job. Super friendly and professional. Started seeing Emely there to play around with more colour and she did a fabulous job taking me from my medium length natural brown to the awesome balayaged warm-blonde lob she did for me earlier this month. Had a really long wait (35 mins) despite being on time for my appointment. The guy who finally greeted me was incredibly rude and condescending. The customer service I received was terrible, and for that reason I wouldn't recommend this salon.

Troy did an amazing job with my haircut. He really took the time to listen to what I wanted with my hair and asked detailed questions to make sure the end result is perfect. He walked me through the process and explained what he was doing. Every time I get a haircut with any other salon I always left kinda unsure when I walk out, but this time I was so happy with my haircut because it is exactly how I pictured it. He also gave me advice on how to manage my hair to keep the layers nice and soft. Nowadays it's hard to find a stylist who actually takes the time to make sure everything is tailored

I had a top notch experience at Republic of Hair this week! Troy was a great conversationalist and I love my cut - one of the best I've ever had. Even though I was their last client of the day and my hair had already been nicely blow-dried, Troy took extra the time to style my hair with a wand and it looked fab. After my stylist at North York did not do a great job with my haircut, I went on a whim to Republic of Hair for highlights based on Yelp and now it is my go to highlight place. Gina was meticulous and attentive to my questions and want for a balayage inspired highlight for a swimmer and cutting my thick locks of hair. Not only was the highlight and haircut well done for my athletic lifestyle, but what can be better with complimentary coffee, friendly and professional staff and a cute canine mascot on a weekend?

Went there a month ago. Booked an appointment, came on time, but had to wait for 40 minutes. Got a (men's) haircut for 33.5 (which was cheap according to the staff - the price ranges from 30 to 50 plus tax). The haircut was good but I could get the same at any other hair salon for 20$ and 10 minutes of waiting. Will not come back.

I had my hair done by the owner, Troy. He was just wonderful. He offered suggestions, was cheerful and gave me a beautiful cut. I would recommend him to anyone and will definitely be returning in the future!

Hal Gonsalves is a great hair stylist & a pleasure to be a client of. He used to style my hair at Fiorio in Richmond Hill. When he moved to the Republic of Hair, I did too.

I came here as my hair dresser Renee moved from Grateful Head to this place. Renee is awesome, I know her since she was in Shampoo and I followed her to RoH. She is awesome as each time she cuts my hair, she does a phenomenal job (I actually let her do whatever she thinks is cool at the moment, and each time she does it, everyone tells me how awesome I look, hence why I trust and follow her here). I admit it is quite pricey for a men's haircut, but totally worth it.

Most welcoming hair salon I've been to. The first time I went in, they couldn't take a drop-in, but the guy I spoke to was super nice and voluntarily referred me to another salon. The second time, I needed a Style Out and that other salon cancelled an appointment I was relying on, and Renee managed to squeeze me in even though she didn't have any open slots. Saved my day both times- I'll be making appointments with them from now on!

I went to Republic of Hair to seek out my favourite stylist Hal Gonsalves. I used to go to him at Fiorio Richmond Hill and followed him here to Republic of Hair. It is a very unassuming space at the top of the stairs. Enter the door from Bloor Street and make your way to the top. They are always playing some cool house music from Troy's collection. I've come here both for "event" hair and a full cut and been thrilled with both. I asked Charles for curls for my event and he described what he was going to do, concluding it with, "basically, I'll just make you gorgeous!" which is exactly what he did.
