There are many choices when it comes to Italian Restaurants, especially when considering ByWard Market Restaurants. Our fresh house made pasta and thin-crust pizzas make us a cut above the rest. Most Italian restaurants don't make their own pasta on site, and often use pre-made sauces. All of our fresh pasta dishes are made a la minute to ensure that our quality is the best.
ByWard Market restaurants benefit from being in the heart of the city, an easy central location for people to meet. Our location in the ByWard Market makes us a great choice for a casual dinner with friends or family, and our gorgeous patio available in the summer months is an award-winning spot to enjoy our superb Italian cuisine.

Mamma Grazzi's Kitchen is located in the beautiful and historical Courtyard. It's a fine dining restaurant with soft interior. The ambience could be better.
Our server was very courteous and humble. Food service was at the right pace. Taste of everything we had was amazing. The burrata was good, I personally loved the pesto drizzle, wish they served it at a larger quantity than just a tea spoon portion. Bianca pizza was just right! Perfect Italian pizza! The base was soft and the size was the pizza was huge! Both the pasta tasted good gnocchi was better than the penne. For dessert we had the tiramisu

The food was a little uninspiring. The kale caesar salad wasn't even cesar (dressing or lettuce), it was a very basic kale salad with no other ingredients beyond the dressing. The entree pasta (Quatro Stagioni) was ok at best. Not a lot of flavour and the sauce was surprisingly runny. The kids dishes were good, but for $12 each it was too expensive for a basic cheese pizza and a penne with tomato sauce. Don't think I'll go back.

I went to Mamma Grazzi Kitchen on 24 November with my husband for my birthday dinner celebration. I ordered the Perfetta - Fettuccine with roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, olive oil. When my dinner arrived the Fettuccine was not edible. It was very chewy. It was like trying to eat rubber bands. I made several attempts to eat it and finally gave up. I told the waiter my concerns and he was not really interested. He was very blah from the time we entered the restaurant, I have never had to send a meal back to the kitchen. It was extremely disappointing as this was my birthday

One of the best restaurant experiences I've had. Their pasta is made freshly in-house which is a rare find. The setting inside is truly cozy and warm on a cold day, and I can imagine the patio outdoor is lively and inviting on a summer's day. The menu boasts an extensive list of pastas and wine to suit any preference. To top it all off, the service is impeccable and the tiramisu is divine!

We arrived here at 9.35 on a Monday to be told the kitchen had closed. The hostess told us to wait and came back a few mins later saying they would still cook for us. We were seated, served water and hot crusty bread immediately. We ordered, got delicious sangria then the food arrived. Mushroom risotto was incredible, pasta Katrina was delicious, home made linguine cooked al dente, pieces of sweet roasted garlic, black peppercorn, onion, bacon and chicken. Service was amazing, food was best Italian I've tasted in a very long time. I read these comments below and am surprised by them

Ordered the Milano pasta - chicken breast was unseasoned, pasta was unsalted, and the sauce was bland, even with parmesan and fresh black pepper. We had to request salt just to get some flavour.
The only saving grace was the excellent wait staff, who were very attentive and welcoming. For the prices being charged, they deserve a pay raise.
All it takes is a bit of salt or MSG in the cooking process, and I would be back in a heartbeat. Very disappointing food.

We just came back from an excellent meal at Mamma Grazzi's in Ottawa, and I just had to rave about it! We sat in their beautiful courtyard, and it was so lovely and spacious. The food was incredible! I haven't eaten that well in a while. I had the Odessa pasta and my husband had the Katrina - both excellent. But I have to say the best part was the fact that the staff were so attentive. There were three staff members looking in on us! Very friendly and they made the evening so enjoyable. I would happily eat there again.

The setting is cute as it's tucked away in the courtyard along with the other restaurants. Service was also pretty good which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. However, the food was lacklustre. We got the spicy grilled squid as the appetizer and it was spicy, but lacked any other sort of seasoning and taste. The chicken was decent, but my pasta (which is what they specialize in), was nothing special. Felt just like veggies with canned tomato sauce...which I can make myself at home. I was wishing for a more unique and delicious pasta but this was not it. The fettuccine noodle was also very

*Please note that this review takes into consideration the present Covid situation.*
We were looking forward to a nice Italian meal which seemed very attractive especially since the menu indicated that pasta and pizza dough were homemade. Unfortunately, the linguine was thicker than thick with tomato sauce made mostly of tomato paste which gave it an unpleasant acidity. The pizza dough was undefinable and ruined the overall taste, while the kale Ceasar salad was Ceasar in name only. While service was very pleasant and attentionate, it cannot make up for poor product quality. Disappointed...

Used to visit this restaurant every time we visited Ottawa but had not been there for a few years. The menu seems to have changed and the food quality and taste is not what it used to be. Eating at Mama Grazzi… was one of the highlights of our trips to Ottawa in the past but this time we were left disappointed. ☹️ P.S. Service was still great!

Disappointed. How does an "Italian" Restaurant run out of bread. We were a table of 13 and they brought out 6 pieces cut into threes... is that a Joke? Why bother bringing it out in the first place. The calamari wasn't good either. Very tough. Wouldn't recommend it especially because it's $16 for 3 pieces..... shocked when I saw that.
The pasta needed flavor however salt, cheese and pepper couldn't save it. $22 plate... I still ate it however I will not return unfortunately.

Totally disappointed with our meals. I ordered the veal marsala and got 3 tooney sized pieces of veal with over-cooked vegetables and potatoes. My husband's chicken was bland . Over priced for what you get! The pizza was ok. Service lacked professionalism. Wont be back nor won't recommend this place !

Looking for Italian food around Ottawa, we found this place with great atmosphere and view. But that's it: food was acceptable, but didn't worth the price you paid. There's no difference between Caesar salad I ordered here and that I bought in supermarket. My mom's salmon spaghetti was too salty. My chicken one tasted good. Our server seemed a bit too cool.

I'm giving aa two star rating, because the courtyard and atmosphere were really nice. My dish however, I'm still not feeling great after eating it. I ordered the Carbonara, and was expecting a well balanced dish of spice, meat, and fresh parsley. What I got however was an overly greasy, and very salty dish and no parsley. I'd never had this plate before, so figured that maybe this was the way it's supposed to taste. However, I still feel over greased and am trying to flush my system with water 3 hours later. I'm typically a meat, pork, sausage type of eater, but this dish

Nice patio tucked away from the street, looks out into a square instead; very busy on a sunny day.
We opted for indoor seating to avoid the wait.
Complimentary bread: fresh steaming hot buns drizzled in olive oil, topped with rosemary! So fresh, so soft.
Pollo: simple classic pasta with chicken. Homemade fettuccine was thicker than usual, but cooked right.
Odessa: just the right amount of spiciness. Generous toppings, the pasta noodle and the sauce stood out for me. Thick dense homemade noodles, well marinated sauce. I was completely stuffed with this dish. In retrospect, I could&apos

This place was pretty good - seems to be the norm for Ottawa dining.
The server was really nice and hospitable, joking around with us when he brought the menus.
They start it you off with bread that's warm and fresh and looks like its drizzled in olive oil but it ended up just being more of a glaze when we cut into it. I wish there was a little more oil so we could dip the bread into something, or if not, wish they served it with butter. The top of the mini loaf was garnished with rosemary and salt which was good, but a bit too salty.

My dinner here was delicious and the patio environment is hard to beat.
My girlfriend's dinner - well not so much.
We had some lovely wine, the bread provided was fresh and fluffy with a nice bottle of olive oil at each table.
Didn't order appetizers as we were on a schedule.
My main course, the porcini pasta, was excellent. Everything was to my expectations. My girlfriend, who ordered the gluten-free pasta had a different experience. Now gluten free is harder to cook, you have to watch it. They clearly didn't and it came out terribly overcooked. The bottom half of her pasta

I'm updating this review from a 1 star to a 3 star. The 1 star was because they closed earlier than what their help and website says. Almost 1.5 hours early. But my gf insisted we go because she likes this place.
We had 4 different pastas. All were decent 4/5 but for the price (around 19), the portions were small. For the average person, this is not enough. I would prefer to go to Boston pizza and be satisfied for $14 3/5
Service was okay.. Staff friendly. 4/5
Would i come back.... not sure.

2 weeks without my own kitchen led me to eating out way to often. I've lived in the same courtyard as Mamma Grazzi's for 2 years but never came by and caved after having an awesome meal at Black Tomato with Yelp superstar Julia M. from Calgary so decided that it might not be to bad after all.
