What is Art Therapy? Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy where clients use simple art materials to explore their inner world and express feelings and concerns both verbally and non verbally. Art therapy provides a safe way to explore challenging feelings in a non-threatening manner. Art therapists are trained to help clients access their creativity to promote healing and integration of mind, body, emotions and spirit.
People of all ages are creative beings. When we are dealing with challenging feelings, words may not be the easiest way to express our complex emotions. Art Therapy allows for both non verbal and verbal expression.
It is especially appropriate for children, adolescents or adults who have difficulty talking about their feelings, or those who have experienced trauma, grief and loss, life changes, depression, anxiety, learning challenges, family problems, attachment issues, body image issues or illnesses. It is also helpful for those who tend to intellectualize as art can help bypass the part of us that may censor what we are willing to talk about.

Sand tray therapy is a wonderful expressive arts modality that provides a safe and contained space for clients to create a three dimensional world or story using miniature symbolic figures in the sand.
Sand tray allows children and adults to express their inner experience with or without words, tapping into deep feelings, and inviting the inner self to heal through expressing and creating a unique story, world or installation art image that is shared and witnessed by the art therapist. The emerging story can hold many layers of meaning and move and change in time and space.
