Services
Our optometry practice was founded in 1983 when Dr. Tripp opened his office on Carling Avenue, just west of Carlingwood Shopping Centre. In 1998, it relocated to the second floor of Hampton Park Plaza (Carling at Kirkwood). The most central location in Ottawa, the plaza is 12 minutes from either Kanata or Orleans with easy Queensway access and free parking.
It is a complete, comprehensive and detailed examination of your visual ability, vision and eye health. You should bring any spectacles or contact lenses you use and a list of current medications. If you regularly wear contact lenses you should wear them to the assessment. Our mission is to provide the best eye care service possible.
As contact lens technology evolves and advances, more and more people are deciding to use them in everyday life. Contact lenses wearers range from teens just out of their first pair of glasses, athletes looking to minimize distractions and maximize their field of view, to everyday users looking for something less obtrusive than glasses.
Laser eye surgery is a powerful technology that can fix most refractive errors (prescriptions) very well, most of the time. It is not however the perfect science that the commercials make it seem (you will sign waivers to that effect). Laser eye surgery is extremely safe and physical problems such as corneal scarring, corneal bulging or perforation are extremely rare.
Changes to legislation in 2011 mean that Ontario optometrists are now able to prescribe oral and topical pharmaceuticals to treat inflammatory red eye (iritis, episcleritis), infections, allergy and glaucoma, giving your patients accessible, qualified care for all their non-surgical ocular needs. We perform plaquenil monitoring, diabetic retinal assessments, visual field testing, foreign body removal and dilated fundus exams routinely.

As a long time contact lens wearer, it wasn't until I moved to Ottawa and turned my eyes over to Dr. Tripp that I finally found true eye comfort and perfect vision! He was the first to finally diagnose my somewhat rare eyelid condition, and find the lenses that worked to alleviate it. Can't recommend him, and his team, highly enough.

James Tripp PhD (not MD or Dr.) is the rudest individual I have ever met. completely full of himself. I won't be back and reading reviews on Rate MD, after the fact, I regret not reading them before and choosing a different optometrist. AVOID him unless you like being yelled at and treated as a lesser individual.

Dr. Tripp is an excellent optometrist. I took my Mom there and he was patient, respectful, and genuinely interested in her vision and comfort. The front desk staff were excellent as well. I'd give them six stars if I could.
Note that the Ontario government has been squeezing payments to optometrists, effectively cutting their pay for years. Like other doctors offices, covid-related increases in time needed per patient has further reduced what they can bill. They are a critical part of our healthcare system and deserve better.

On May 4, 2018, my friend and I arrived at your office for a scheduled appointment with Dr. Guerrette. My friend has severe mobility issues and I was driving and accompanying her. The experience was enormously frustrating and disappointing for both of us.
