Conveniently located in Hampton Park Plaza for more than 19 years, the office of Dr. R. James Tripp and the supporting team at Hampton Park Optometry offers a full range of comprehensive optometric services. Our many years of clinical experience, in combination with meticulous attention to detail and the application of advanced technologies ensure accurate glasses and contact lenses prescriptions, as well as superior ocular disease detection and management.

Dr. Tripp will partner with you to achieve your vision goals, offering a full range of eye care services, including comprehensive eye examinations, as well as any needed prescriptions for eye glasses or contact lenses; pre- and post-operative laser eye surgery care.
Services
Our optometry practice was founded in 1983 when Dr. Tripp opened his office on Carling Avenue, just west of Carlingwood Shopping Centre. In 1998, it relocated to the second floor of Hampton Park Plaza (Carling at Kirkwood). The most central location in Ottawa, the plaza is 12 minutes from either Kanata or Orleans with easy Queensway access and free parking.
It is a complete, comprehensive and detailed examination of your visual ability, vision and eye health. You should bring any spectacles or contact lenses you use and a list of current medications. If you regularly wear contact lenses you should wear them to the assessment. Our mission is to provide the best eye care service possible.
As contact lens technology evolves and advances, more and more people are deciding to use them in everyday life. Contact lenses wearers range from teens just out of their first pair of glasses, athletes looking to minimize distractions and maximize their field of view, to everyday users looking for something less obtrusive than glasses.
Laser eye surgery is a powerful technology that can fix most refractive errors (prescriptions) very well, most of the time. It is not however the perfect science that the commercials make it seem (you will sign waivers to that effect). Laser eye surgery is extremely safe and physical problems such as corneal scarring, corneal bulging or perforation are extremely rare.
Changes to legislation in 2011 mean that Ontario optometrists are now able to prescribe oral and topical pharmaceuticals to treat inflammatory red eye (iritis, episcleritis), infections, allergy and glaucoma, giving your patients accessible, qualified care for all their non-surgical ocular needs. We perform plaquenil monitoring, diabetic retinal assessments, visual field testing, foreign body removal and dilated fundus exams routinely.

As a long time contact lens wearer, it wasn't until I moved to Ottawa and turned my eyes over to Dr. Tripp that I finally found true eye comfort and perfect vision! He was the first to finally diagnose my somewhat rare eyelid condition, and find the lenses that worked to alleviate it. Can't recommend him, and his team, highly enough.

I've been seeing Dr. Tripp since I was a child in grade school, so over 20+ years. I've never had a problem and he always took the time to explain any questions I had.

James Tripp PhD (not MD or Dr.) is the rudest individual I have ever met. completely full of himself. I won't be back and reading reviews on Rate MD, after the fact, I regret not reading them before and choosing a different optometrist. AVOID him unless you like being yelled at and treated as a lesser individual.

Dr. Tripp is an excellent optometrist. I took my Mom there and he was patient, respectful, and genuinely interested in her vision and comfort. The front desk staff were excellent as well. I'd give them six stars if I could.
Note that the Ontario government has been squeezing payments to optometrists, effectively cutting their pay for years. Like other doctors offices, covid-related increases in time needed per patient has further reduced what they can bill. They are a critical part of our healthcare system and deserve better.

Fantastic Service. Recommended by an optician as I was heaving major problems with a prescription give by an Ophthalmologist. He spent considerable time with me to figure it out. Have seen him since for twenty years. Excellent attention and explanations

Dr. Tripp is a professional and extremely thorough. It is obvious that he enjoys his work and doesn't hesitate to answer any questions the patient has. I've been a patient of his for well over ten years. I highly recommend.

On May 4, 2018, my friend and I arrived at your office for a scheduled appointment with Dr. Guerrette. My friend has severe mobility issues and I was driving and accompanying her. The experience was enormously frustrating and disappointing for both of us.
Having had a week to calm down, I am now ready to write a proper account of last week’s experience. My friend and I specifically left in good time to get to the 12:30 appointment because it was raining. However, on our way to the appointment we ran into a traffic accident where the jaws of life were being used to extricate the
