After 45 years at the jeweller's bench, certified master goldsmith Ian Finlayson has retired from full-time work and no longer keeps regular business hours. Our retail business is closed. We are not taking on repairs or redesigns of old jewellery. That said, Ian has not put down the tools altogether.

A man came to us with a diamond cluster ring he had inherited from his mother. He wanted to share this one precious heirloom among his mother's six granddaughters. Each came in and designed her own ring using her share of the diamonds and created a memento, unique to herself, that she would wear and cherish and one day pass on to the next generation.
The relationship between a designer and a goldsmith is much like that between an architect and a builder. Each must understand the other's work, so that the finished product is both functional and beautiful. The intuition and artistry of the designer, the skill of the goldsmith, and the vision of the client are the three pillars of custom design.
I love my ring! I have received so many compliments on it and a few people have recognized it from your ad in the paper. My favourite comment, so far, was from a customer who said. Thank you so much for our beautiful rings and for helping make this possible for Joe and me. Lesley - thank you for helping me find what I never knew I always wanted.

I've been remiss in not shouting out for Ian and Claire. Thanks to a recent thread [http://www.yelp.ca/topic/vancouver-ring-re-sizing-in-the-city], I can correct this gross oversight and tell you about Finlayson Goldsmiths.
Finlayson's has been in business for many years. They made wedding rings for my wife and self, and we could not be happier with them. Katie took her mom's rings and recycled the diamonds and gold into a stunning creation. Mine is a simpler design, yet equally striking.
