I have been going to First Ave and seeing Dr. Dhunna with my two sphynx cats since they were kittens (the oldest one is now 3). I do not have enough words to express how caring and compassionate Dr. Dhunna and the whole team are. My cats have had a number of issues, from eating things they shouldn't to hip displasia/dislocation to allergies, and they have been so amazing in answering all of my questions and addressing my concerns. Due to the breed of my cats, I have had special requests around anesthesia during procedures and they are knowledgeable about what can and cannot be used for them. I

100% recommend. I can see why someone from the BCSPCA recommended this vet to me. I wish I'd asked for the front desk manager's name because the balancing act I saw between talking to patients' parents, answering phones and dealing with what's going on behind the curtain deserves a lot of credit. I've seen enough vets to know which ones care and which ones don't, and this clinic clearly cares.

PET MURDERER!!!!
If you love pet, do NOT bring it here. My dog has not been feeling well, so I brought her here. The vet took her to the back gave her 2 shots. Shortly afterwards, my dog started limping and died!!! I have no idea what he injected in her.
I was so upset and cried my heart out! He accused me of abusing my dog prior to his treatment. Today BS! I loved her more than anything in this world!
All this vet wanted is $$$. He brutally murdered my dog with no mercy.
WTH is that! If I didn't bring my dog here, she would not be death!!!!
It is tough to find a good

My cat fell ill, kept vomiting every time she ate. I took her to an emergency and got radiology done but could not keep her there for further treatment due to my finance. I called 1st Ave as soon as they opened and they scheduled an appointment for my cat right away. Their response was fast, very professional, explanation was logical and compassionate. Thank you!!

We’ve been coming here many years. Friendly services and caring. My dog loves the staff, and they do too :) Always clear about what they can do, you can pick and choose. All my dog’s issues over the years have been solved (allergies, cut paw, dew claw infection, pneumonia etc.). They’re also very accommodating with appointment times.

I brought my dog here first time for concern as my vet was booked for a few weeks, They showed professionalism and Dr. Dhunna was very knowledgeable with explaining to me of what he was going to do and front desk staff is amazing I felt comfortable! My dog usually hates going into vet clinic but she was so comfortable and happy here. I will transferring all 2 of my animals to this clinic. I highly recommend 1st Ave animal hospital for all your veterinarian needs.

Our cat was really really sick (vomited 10 times throughout the night) so we took him to an emergency clinic. Turns out he ate a string-like material (added in the picture) and it got obstructed in his intestines. Surgery was the only way but the cost was way too expensive so we looked and called every other hospital and this was the only helpful best price place we could find. The doctors are the nicest doctors i've ever met they were ever so understanding of our situation. All the staff members were very helpful and kind. They performed the surgery perfectly and saved our cat's life!! Our cat

I brought my 14yr old dog in for a surgery (a growth on his snout) and teeth removal. I called a few different places and all had very long wait. This place gave me an appointment the next day and did the surgery on that same day. The doctor and the staff were amazing, and gave us all the post surgery medicines. As for the cost, it was quite reasonable, as I have no insurance. For my experience, this place definitely deserves more stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you care about your animals DO NOT bring them to 1st Ave Animal Hospital. My bunny has been suffering from stasis (her stomach slowing down) which is one of the leading causes of death in rabbits so I was desperate to find a vet to treat her on short notice.
I had brought her to the emergency vet on Friday, but she started recovering over the weekend. When her symptoms started showing up again (not eating, defecating and drinking) I called a list of rabbit-savvy vets to see if anyone could see her on short notice. All were booked so I tried calling 1st Ave and they told me they could fit her

We had a very positive experience with Dr Dhunna and Team. Our dog had a large lump in his abdomen which came as a great shock to us. We had an xray and an ultrasound (because how can a vet/surgeon know what they're dealing with if you don't?) and although expensive, this is the cost of medical care whether animal or human if we don't have… insurance... We went from examination to life-saving surgery in less than a week and I'm sure that Dr Dhunna pulled some strings to make this happen quickly. The whole team were supportive and caring and thorough. We were kept informed throughout the

Apparently Dr Dhunna who owns this clinic had given me an estimate for an operation on my dog which was cheaper than other vets. I had no idea that he was giving me a "lucky break." Then when I confirmed the price one month later, he put the price up. Why? I asked the receptionist. She was finally straight with me. Apparently, he was cross that I'd had my dog's records sent to another vet. What was I supposed to do under the circumstances, when my dog's operation had been cancelled the day before surgery on the grounds that "Dr Dhunna is too busy...phone back please

DO NOT GO HERE! Took my dog into the clinic for a follow up apt. After a dog attack. Went in with information from the emergency animal hospital that her puncture wounds were left open to drain and heal on their own. They were scabbed over completely. The nurse came out and assessed her situation took note, saw her wounds on her belly then… continued to pick her up from her belly causing my dog to yelp in discomfort. After this we were invited to the room to see the vet and our dog. The vet proceeded to split open her scabbed over wound with his bare fingers and tell us the information that

Went to 1st Avenue Animal Hospital on Feb. 29 to have my ageing dogs euthanized. From the moment we arrived, the staff were fabulous, very caring, kind, explained the entire procedure. My dogs were sisters, never been apart in 14 1/2 years. Dr. Dhunna was absolutely amazing. Very gentle soul who's care and understanding was extraordinary. This was the first time I'd been to 1st Avenue, and I'm recommending Dr. Dhunna and his staff to any one who has pets. A very positive and blessed experience.

We took our 13 year old cat Emily to 1st Ave. Animal hospital about 2 weeks ago. After going to the SPCA with a very sick cat and getting turned away because we didn't have an appointment, (we have been taking Emily there since she was a kitten)I was seriously thinking Emily wasn't going to survive. The only good thing the spca did was recommend 1st Ave. I called and they told me to bring Emily straight in. Dr. Dhunna examined her did xrays and advised us that she needed surgery to remove a Intestinal blockage. Dr. Dhunna got her comfortable did the surgery the very next day. We just

This vet only cares about your money. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. He has no emotions and DOES NOT care about your pet. HE HAS NO SYMPATHY FOR YOU. Back in August, I brought my dog here because he had 2 lumps growing by his jaw. The vet said that the lumps could be because of an infection in the body or it could be cancer. (He also found… other lumps throughout his body). He then recommended that we do a blood test to make sure and of course, I opted to do the blood test. The blood test came back as an 'infection' so he prescribed me some medicine for my dog to help get rid of

They saved my Puppy's life!
Originally brought in Nalah for what we thought was some gas and an infection but things quickly turned into a life threatening event. The Dr. and staff were incredible in the way they handled the situation. The Dr. was able to bring Nalah in for an emergency surgery the same day which resulted in saving her life.
I cannot be more thankful. He's given me more time with my Nalah bear. I will definitely be coming back and recommending them to everyone that needs a vet.

Felt like nothing but a commodity to this vet. I get that you are running a business but playing on a person's emotions and ordering unnecessary tests and xrays. Tried to get me to agree to surgery when it turned out that it was completely unnecessary. Glad I took my cat elsewhere to get the treatment that she actually needed.

Will definitely not come back here. Vet was over 20 min late for my appt (first appt of the day!). No aplogy for making me wait from the Vet altho front desk lady did apologize once after i waited 15 min and i was clearly was not impressed at the delay.
Then vet strolls in after being late looking disheveled and like he literally rolled out of bed. I hold professionals to a certain degree of professionalism. This guy was definitely subpar looking and behaving the way he did. I wouldnt have trusted him to wipe my dogs butt much less look after my pups overall care.

I love love this animal hospital. My Princess went into labour and I phoned Dr Dhunna 15 minutes before they were to close and he could have told me to go to another hospital, but he didn't!. Told me to bring her straight in. Good thing! She needed a C-section and even though he was closed he stayed an extra 3 hours and saved my Princess and all… her pups. Not to mention he charged me $2,500.00 less than any other place would have. They are true to their word when they say they don't want to price pet owners out of caring for their fur babies. I'll never forget the kindness and care he gave

I came to this vet for vaccinations after starting with Vancouver Animal Wellness Hospital. Wasn't overly impressed with the vet and thought I'd like to do vaccinations instead of the expensive blood titrations. The vet gave me loads more information on my dog's potential knee condition than they did at VAW. We came back to get an X-ray done and now have a confirmed diagnosis. The vet is thorough in explaining all the details to you and helping you make a good plan of action and doesn't push insurance.

We got there at about 9:30. The receptionist, Phaedra, was very helpful and understanding about are pressing situation. We didn't have an appointment but she was able to squeeze as in very first time slot.
Dr. Dhunna thoroughly examined Morris. He was taken for an x-ray. Morris had bladder stones that needed to be removed ASAP. He had

I would never recommend this animal hospital to anyone... ok let's start,
The nurse's are very friendly and will try to answer all your questions but there is a new nurse recently training and i would never trust her with my dog you will be able to spot her out if you still decide to go there after reading my review. I think the doctor is very misleading when I first started to bring my dog there in October his ears were red, swollen, and a smell to them so she gave him 4 different antibiotics the were all inexpensive after he was done all those antibiotics I took him back for

When I brought my dog in for check-up, the doctor told me he had bladder stones and needed to do a surgery ASAP. Both the doctor and the receptionists were very willing to answer the many questions I had. I also wanted to check the price to see if it would be cheaper for the same surgery done at other hospitals and they were extremely understandable and emailed us all the x-rays as well! At the end, they offered the cheapest price so we took our dog there for the surgery. They asked that I bring my dog back in the next day so they can monitor him for a day to make sure he's okay. How considerate
