The Night Owl Bird hospital is a Vancouver based veterinary hospital, wholly dedicated to avian veterinary services. Our head veterinarian is Dr. Anne McDonald, who, like the entire staff, shares a special interest in your feathered friends. Dr. McDonald's dedication to the welfare of her patients is so strong that she was recently recognized as the 2017 recipient of the CVMA Humane Award.
The CVMA Humane Award is presented annually to a CVMA member whose work is judged to have contributed significantly to the welfare and well-being of animals. We are fully staffed with animal enthusiasts that understand the meaningful, familial relationship that develops between an owner and their loved pet, and thus make it our mission that every patient and client is treated with the highest degree of individual care.

Services
Night Owl Bird Hospital is proud to serve the Vancouver BC area for everything pet related. Our veterinary clinic and animal hospital is run by Dr. Anne McDonald, who is a licensed, experienced Vancouver veterinarian. Our team is committed to educating our clients in how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise.
Never leave dangerous objects like pins, needles, or fish hooks within reach. Keep poisonous products and materials far from your pet's reach as you would with a child. Of course, before an emergency ever arises, it's a good idea to learn all you can about first aid techniques and pet health care. Cockatiels are among the most popular pet birds.
When you are looking for a veterinary care clinic you should be able to count on superior care and excellent service. We at Night Owl Bird Hospital in Vancouver BC have assembled an expert team of veterinary professionals to bring you the best possible healthcare for your pet. We have a state of the art veterinary facility which is clean, comfortable, and efficient.
Pets are life-long commitments, and keeping a pet happy, healthy, fed, and well-exercised requires time and money. In order to pick the right pet for you, one must consider your lifestyle, living situation, and how much care you are able or willing to provide. Some pets require very little interaction with their owners, while others need almost constant companionship!
So you've decided what pet is right for you--congratulations! But your work is not yet done. Where you go to get your pet is just as important as what kind of pet you get. Here are some suggestions on where to go - and where not to go - in your search for your perfect pet!

Night Owl, they are really knowledgeable with our birds, they can be very busy but worth the wait with their many many many decades of knowledge in the aviary world and very very professional and caring, they are the go to for birds, although they could not save our beautiful little budgie we felt confident that their was nothing more they could have done, Thank you to Night Owl, WE will go to them if we need to with our other birds,

This hospital has been the difference between life and death for my birds at times. Dr. McDonald and Dr. Miller have the specific skills to step in when life threatening emergencies happen. Last week they treated our ten year old dove who suffered a laceration and was exsanguinating whilst the wound became infected. Thankfully, he's healing beautifully now and my children can continue to enjoy spending time with their lifelong friend into his old age.
11/10, would come here again (but dearly hope I don't have to!)

I first would like to thank Dr. McDonald for her kind and careful exam on my cockatiel, Butter. She did a wonderful job explaining her diagnosis and Butter seemed to be happy afterward. I am also very grateful that they were able to get Butter in on a Sunday evening. Thank you Nightowl team <3

Great caring doctors, but the waits are very long, so make sure you book well in advanced. Some of the older nurses/staff are VERY hostile. I know that I am doing my best for my bird and I am asking you a simple question. I do not need to patronized nor talked down to. We all want the birds to be well, and sometimes you just have to do your best. It just isn't it, and I have had enough of that attitude. I don't feel safe talking to the front desk or asking for help for my bird anymore.

Gave my 16 year old Lovebird an extra half a year when he suddenly fell ill. Dr McDonald is incredibly well-knowledged and skilled and along with the Night Owl staff, I always knew my bub was getting the best care he could at his later years. They were also very sensitive and caring when he passed and I also appreciated the few options available with his post-life care
They definitely need more staff though so be aware you will probably need to wait a while outside. Worth every penny

Dr. McDonald is amazing. She does everything. She really goes above and beyond in order to make sure that these birds are safe, happy and healthy. I went in today to get my love bird checked up, however he sadly had a lot of complications that disturbed him to live his day to day life happily, and I made a hard decision to get him euthanized. The staff was compassionate, responsible and understanding. I wouldn't have wanted my bird sky to pass in any other place surrounded by great people. If you have a bird, please take them here. They'll do anything to keep your bird alive. Thank you, Night Owl

Thank you to Dr. McDonald and their wonderful staff. 2 days ago, I had to make the saddest decision of my life. My male 26 yrs old Derbyan, Derby, had to be euthanized due to a large, inoperable mass that was effecting the quality of his life. I had him for 25 years. Night Owl staff is beyond amazing and they really cared for Derby and me during Derby's last few moments. He is being cremated and I hope to have him home soon. thank you again to everyone at Night Owl.

Dr. MacDonald and her team are fantastic. When my little cockatiel (who was my pet/baby for 25 years) fell ill and then passed away, I was hysterical. Dr. M not only provided Pippa with great care at the end of her life, but Dr. M was also kind and helped me to say good-bye to Pippa when she passed and I was inconsolable. I am incredibly grateful to everyone at this office who helped care for Pippa (and my fragile emotional state). I still have my other elderly bird (now going on 26) and his new companion. Night Owl makes sure my old guy is well cared for as he ages, and have fixed the wing of

Scammy vet. This vet will try to get your every last penny. They have done this to us and we will never go back! They "tailor" their "treatment" to extract every penny from you , sneaking in things like a sudden "vitamin shot" without asking - just wait til you get the bill. We could not believe ours. Rates are about triple that of other vets and are.mostly hurried by hidden fees that aren't disclosed until you get to pick up your pet. They use psychological techniques tontug at tour heartstrings when you are at your lowest to try and get more money from you.

This place looked after my families love bird in his last days. Everyone here is so caring and attentive to the birds, I can see they have passion for their careers. Our bird passed while in their care, and they assured us that he did not die alone and that there was a night carer that was with him. After paying the bill I was shocked at how reasonable it was, this place is a special spot. We donated our birds items to them later as they care for many birds that need homes. Dr MacDonald truly cares for your pets just as you would want someone to, with so much love. When we came to pick up our pretty

I have been taking my exotic birds to Dr. Anne McDonald for approximately 15 years and she is the most professional, knowledgeable DVM I have ever known. Dr. Anne McDonald is so knowledgeable about the veterinarian care of the avian species It absolutely astounds me. I have also taken my exotic birds to Dr. Meyers and she is also professional and knowledgeable in the care of the avian species. Dr. Anne McDonald and Dr. Meyers have also taken on the task of caring for 600 exotic birds from the World Parrot Refuge over the past two years. Who knows what fate of those exotic birds would have been

Our parrot has been seeing doctor McDonald for almost 10 years now. How fortunate we are to have a vet specializes in bird right around our house! In short, doctor McDonald is incredible and she really cares. Our pet bird was vomiting one time, and thank god dr McDonald was here! Google the recent event of her giving care and shelter to over 500+ birds from a rescue operation. Also, the cost of receiving care from night owl hospital is incredibly reasonable- consider that she is one of the only few bird specialist in Vancouver.

Dr.M and all her staff at Night Owl are simply amazing. Having taken my birds to Night Owl for many years now, I have witnessed first hand the hours of overtime they put in, the abundance of love and care they provide to all the birds in their care and their endless dedication to not only their patients but the avian community as a whole. Their doors have been opened to me after hours, emergency appointments made to happen with a moments notice and many a late night phone call to ease my mind. They go above and beyond. The fees are fairly average, the care exemplary. I highly recommend Night Owl

Night Owl: The inverted moral world of the psychologically maladapted.
I accompanied a friend who was dropping off her ill bird, and while she was at the reception desk filling out some paper work, I decided to idle away a moment or two admiring the incredibly exotic birds that were on display in cages in the reception room.
I was admiring the birds, viz. being respectful of the environment, and not being a nuisance.
Enthralled by one bird in particular, I produced my camera, and in an instant, heavy footfalls heralded the approach of the hospital's slattern. She stands at the doorway

I just dropped by the Night Owl Bird Hospital today to book an appointment to get a band removal for our bird. The receptionist (the older lady) was very rude and gave us attitude. She asked us to fill out a form to the best of our ability which we did but we didn't know how old the bird was so she gave us the "roll-my-eyes" attitude. She was very snappy and impatient despite the fact that we remained calm. Leaving the hospital, I felt disrespected and angered about the way that we were treated. She clearly has no respect for people, I question how she will treat the birds. I am

I wish I had discovered this vet sooner, instead of subjecting my little pal to vets without specialized avian knowledge.
Dr. MacDonald and staff are fantastic. Compassionate, personable, thorough, and with a genuine soft spot for birds.
The cost is comparable to all vets. There's the initial exam (I think it was between $35 and $50), and follow-up appointments are on a sliding scale (plus any medicines or tests needed).
Unfortunately I was there at least once a week for several months as we tried to help my bird recover from multiple health issues, but the quality of care was worth every
