Services
One of the most popular dishes all over Greece. A variety mix of grilled or fried mezedakia (appetizers) served in platters where everyone shares. We have the following Pikilia platters at Kalyvia, served with Elliniki (Greek) Salad, Greek Style Lemon Roast Potatoes, Seasoned Baked Steamed Rice, Garlic Bread.
Recently, Toronto by Night and its sister publication Ottawa by Night Journal visited the established Kalyvia Restaurant on the hustle and bustle of Danforth Avenue (Greek Town). We discovered a true winner, serving an authentic Greek Cuisine at a moderate to inexpensive fare. This landmark Restaurant is a pioneer for Greek Cuisine and it is open from Monday to Sunday from 11:00 am to twelve midnight seven days a week nonstop.

Not great. $10 for a chicken on a pita which was not big nor flavourful. $5 for the Greek salad which was smaller than the size of my fist. Overall the food didn't taste horrible, but was not at all worth price I paid especially considering the amount of options for great Greek food on the Danforth. This was recommended by a friend and now I will not be recommending this to anyone.

We really enjoyed our meal here. We had a variety of dips and spanakopita, and saganaki, and a couple of us had one of the lamb chops and a lamb skewer. Everything was wonderful, and service was great throughout. Recommend this spot.

Really good food! Ordered squid dinner through Uber eats and it was very yummy. The portion was big too! It came with Greek salad, rice and potatoes. My friend had chicken souvlaki dinner and liked it too. Adding this to my favourites list!

The foods ok we just wish they served real tzaziki made traditionally with yoghurt, garlic and shaved cucumber instead of the boring wall paper paste stuff they call tzaziki. Tastes and looks more like anonymous middle eastern food than Greek.

I probably would have given 2.5 but since no .5 score is offered I felt overall it was fair to give a 3 score.
Ordered through UberEats today.

We ordered the Lamb Souvlaki and Moussaka. I will say that they were generous with the sides, the salad was good and they gave some garlic bread with the meals.

Hubby really enjoyed the souvlaki and they did follow our special request notes. I was not a fan of the Moussaka. Just was quite blah and lots more potatoes vs the eggplant and meat.

Re UberEats, we are normally good with it, but the food took over 30 minutes to get to us for a restaurant

My boyfriend and I order from here almost every week! Great food, good portions and very affordable! We love the saganaki & tirokafteri ( I hope I spelled those right) we share both and get extra pita, we've also had the chicken gyro which was good! Always very full after ordering. The saganaki is really good in person as it's flamed before served to you but ordering it is surprisingly just as good imo

Gluten free dairy free order for vegan and pescaterian. I grew up on the Danforth and have been eating Greek food there for 40 years. It's going downhill. The great spots like Avli are gone.

We got delivery via STD. The grilled squid was the best part, even though it didn't have any char marks. I'd give it 3.75/5.

The converted rice we didn't touch. Ugh. The potatoes weren't roasted, as is traditional. There was no jus served with them either. They tasted day old, skinned and boiled with a bit of parsley and maybe a speck of paprika on top Disappointingly pasty and

Had lunch with a group of friends here today. Great deal! A Gyros, soup and greek salad all for $10. The food was delicious, the waiter was attentive. I'll definitely be back.

First time ordered today for delivery. Loved the food. I am a huge calamari fan...fried or grilled...and the fried today was great, especially for a delivered food item. Our souvlaki's on pita were very good. The only reason I won't give it a 5 star is that the onions in the souvlaki are too strong...a milder white onion would be better.

Great food...too bad about the dead, upside down cockroach in my son's iced tea today though. Pretty much killed my appetite for the remainder of my meal. He was however offered a new drink and a free piece of baklava...thanks? They said they've had a pest control problem ever since the recent subway renovations. Apparently it's been driving the aforementioned pests into the annals of their restaurant? Perfect but I think I'll pass next time.

This place was our go to place for amazing calamari. Came back here the other day after 2 years and the taste and quality of the calamari had not changed. We also had the grilled octopus tentacle which was grilled to perfection. I personally believe that these 2 dishes are a must have at this restaurant. Unfortunately the portion of the calamari has been cut in half and is now served with plain room temperature buns rather than hot toasted garlic bread like before yet the price remained the same. Just the calamari and the octopus came up to $40.

Disappointed. Here for Greek on the Danforth, but wanted to take a break from the crowds and the heat. Was greeted promptly, however service after that was slow. Servers were too busy talking and the restaurant was not busy. Greek salad was delicious. Unfortunately the dinner portion size was small and quite expensive. Not sure if it was because it's festival time but do not feel we will be returning to this restaurant in the future

I come to this page and am greeted by the suggestion to book a table...I think not!!!

Spent $40 on take out and my order is wrong and missing a main part of the meal. Not impressed, as this is the second time this has happened. They seal the take out bag like Fort Knox so there was no way to check without making my car smell like a kitchen. Not impressed and will only be returning for a refund of my meal. This is my second bad experience in as many weeks with take out on the Danforth. Having worked in the service industry for many years, I'm not a fan of folks not doing their jobs (kitchen

It was first visit. Before we came, we are walking around and desaided stop by Kalyvia.
It was great choice. First of all few servers met us with smile and positive. When we got a table, our server Andre brought water immediately ( it was a big plus )
He was very polite and friendly. He told us about special of the day and took order for drinks.
For appetizers we decided to take 3 different dips. All of them was absolutely delicious. And more important thing - he brought warm bread and pita. I ordered Grilled Calmary, my husband - Pork Dinner. Portion is very big and delicious ( of course I asked

Of late, I've coming here more frequently as I have found their food much better than the other places in Greektown. Their menu has a wide selection and I've found that my favourite grilled calamari is prepared significantly better than any of the other places around the area. Even something as simple as souvlaki, is done extremely well with portions that are very generous by my standards.

Full disclosure - I'm a regular, and have been for about 3 years or so.

It's the best straight-up Greek the Danforth. Simple and delicious. No pretension.

Normally I have late-night takeaway, but when I've eaten in the service has been attentive but not overpowering. Best order: gyro platter. Food for a crowd and their gyro is juicy, flavourful, and comes with excellent salad and other fixings. The dolma and spanakopita are all made in-house and remind me of my grandmother's recipes. Their lamb chops by the piece can't be beat. Do yourself a favour and order a

I randomly chose this restaurant while walking around Greek town walked one Thursday night with a friend. I had the special which was this eggplant beef and cheese dish. It was so delicious I brought my fiancé the next day. Unfortunately they no longer had that on special but the waiter recommended this calamari seafood dish. It was also amazing. My fiancé had the pork chop and they were cooked very tender and moist. Really impressed by this casual family owned restaurant. We are definitely going back to try other dishes.

Not too bad, but too expensive for the amount of food I paid for. Clearly paying for the location in greektown more than the food itself.
Standard Greek dinner. Decent salad (too much lettuce), rice was fine, potatoes were really good, meat was fine, bread was good, and finally tzatziki was not bad but I have had better.

We had supper there last night.

We shared a bottle of white house wine ... it was good.

Gord ordered Ortikia (two large size quails mixed with herbs and spices baked in the oven) with rice, potatoes and veggies.

I ordered Chicken Breast Dinner (two generous pieces of char-broiled chicken filet) with rice, potatoes, veggies and tzatziki.

It was delicious!

My only complaint is that the veggies weren't fresh (they were cooked from frozen).

I'd recommend this restaurant ... the food was good and our server was very friendly.
