Koon Bo Seafood Restaurant
Our family has been in the restaurant business for a very long time. Nowadays we can proudly boast our reputation for a well known Chinese restaurant in our area. Choose any dish from the menu which can help you to experience the real taste of Chinese cuisine.

Tucked away in a tiny strip mall at 41st Avenue and Fraser Street is Koon Bo Restaurant, a locally run Chinese eatery that has been serving up quality Cantonese-style dishes for more than two decades.Chef and owner Wu Yong Zhong opened Koon Bo in 1998, creating traditional plates that quench the appetite of customers from Hong Kong and China's Guangdong province.
Services
Since the day we've opened our doors for the first time in 1998, we've served tens of thousands of people, sharing our love for a traditionally Chinese cuisine with the local citizens, as well as with all guests of our city.

There are others that are better and better-known-but that's what makes Koon Bo significant: its quiet, unassuming existence still attracts die-hard customers after 20 years, and it has outlived many other Chinese restaurants in Metro Vancouver.A few well-loved dishes shredded chicken salad (it's not rare to see each table order this classic item on any given night), roast squab, and roast duck, which requires advance ordering.

Food is overpriced. I ordered lobster with noodles for takeout. The dish costs $125 for a 2.5 lb lobster. To my surprise, I found two empty lobster claws with no meat in them. There are about 2 bowls of noodles. What a rip off.

It is Chinese New Year Eve and we ordered take well in advance. We went to pick up our order and the two staff were overwhelmed. Over 30 people were there waiting for their orders with no system of serving. We left without our food.
On a regular day, their food is delicious but the take order service is very disorganized and disappointing.

The restaurant charge different prices on the menu items depending on if you are paying by cash or debit/credit card. For example, one of their signature dish "roasted squab", despite the fact they put the price on their special board as $19.8, they change the price to $26.50 if you pay debit card. The waitress told me the restaurant has the right to charge the customers differently based on the method of payment. I know some restaurants are not 100% honestly on their taxes but I never saw one restaurant does it so obviously. Cheating on tax is illegal and it is definitely not a pleasant

Make sure you have reservations! Place is usually packed with people and a lot of their signature dishes requires reservation in advance. A must try is their roasted pigeon, super crispy on the outside and juicy inside. They also have a Dong Gua soup that is to die for (served in a whole winter melon- also must order in advance). It's only 1 size though and it's enough to serve 10 people so don't order it unless you have a large group. My husband loves their baked tapioca dessert pudding. One downfall though is that the tables are very close together, restaurant is very small

Duck was very flavorful. Chinese style beef with tomato sauce and onions was tender and kid friendly. Salt and pepper shrimp not super crispy but nice slightly spicy from fresh green chilies and garlic. We didn't order crab but looked tasty. Black cod glazed with slightly sweet sauce was also nice.

First thing first, I am very familiar about the ownership before they split from their sis diner 'Koon Lok' back in the 90s. I know the family well and how they claim fame and its current success based on their food quality, hard work and dedication.
In my opinion KP still holding the title the best 'roast squab' in Vancouver or anywhere in N America. Otherwise all the reviews from this site are very accurate. Meaning this is a wrong place to go if one may expect 'table services' because there is none.
The patrons go there to 'worship' only about their food

It's been a while since I had such an extravagant cantonese meal but totally worth the experience. There are a few typical Cantonese cuisines which are not available anywhere else. We ordered:
-Seafood soup cooked in a whole winter melon (over $100): this is my favorite and it has to be ordered a few hours early. The soup is super delicious as its FULL of seafood: scallops, crab meat, shrimp...Instead of using sesemi oil or any cooking oil, they top it up with a few slices of roast duck breast. Yum yum.. The soup is rather large and easily feed a table of 8.

I came here for and early Mother's Day dinner. I think I go the worst seat in the whole restaurant... right by the door... lots of people waiting for a table right in my face! I had to push back on a guy who backed his nap sack into me!

This is a super tight restaurant... packed in like little Asian sardines! Still the service is pretty good and the food is thumbs up!

Came back to try this famous local sensation for roasted squab. Haven't been here for at least 5 years. Newly renovated but same interior and comfy casual feel. Time has stood still here. Same wait staff with pleasant friendly service. We ordered the roasted squab, black cod, egg tofu with 3 types of mushrooms and a few other dishes. Roasted squab was really meaty and juicy. Skin was especially crispy and tasted really fresh. Squab was so tasty that I forgot to take the picture. Black cod is marinated and comes with mayo dressing. Loved the egg tofu dish it came with tons of mushrooms. Parking

4 stars for the food

Food was delicious! The waiter doesn't check up on you unless you flag him down. Except for the fact that we haven't had the chance to tip the waiter and he approach us to point it out.
I would have given the service 5 stars had he not done that to us. Let me pay first....calm down!

We used to come here and order take out from here for fancier family dinners quite often but noticed that the quality had slipped so this is our first retry of their food in quite awhile. We got the most popular dishes being the shredded chicken salad which was delicious with plenty of chicken meat, tangy pickled veggies and did not feel too heavy since the wonton strips come on the side. I ate a huge portion of this but what my family loved was their deep fried tofu and fish puffs that were soft and delicate accompanied by a bite of the honey garlic pork chops in a crispy shell (that remained

We came in for a family dinner on a weeknight. The restaurant looks like it's renovated. It looks way brighter and the menu books look brand new when compared to the time we came in a couple of months ago. The staff and menu items look the same so I don't think they changed owners.

We ordered the famous shredded chicken again. Sweet and sour boneless pork, fish maw soup and seafood on steamed egg whites. Chicken with black bean sauce on crispy egg noodles.

I was quite impressed that eventhough restaurant was half full but the dishes came out pretty quickly.

It is a very small restaurant in a corner strip mall. The parking situation is not the best and street parking is almost impossible on this busy street corner.

However, the food and service are above average. Each dish we ordered on the spot or preordered are very tasty.

I would revisit here again.

Same consistency, solid as always. For South Van, it's a very viable option.

Go for their shredded chicken salad & sqwab, their signature dishes.

The 'Dow mew' was a bit old this time...

My 2nd visit and it was even better than the first (is that even possible)?!?!?

Again, mediocre service at best, but accept that when you're coming and you'll be ok. There's just too few people working so they're all pretty overwhelmed.

- The winter melon show stopper soup was even better than last time. It was clearer and there was more meats this time. I had more bowls than I did on my previous visit.

- My only complaint about the jellyfish chicken dish was there wasn't much jellyfish this time. We were all wondering if there was even any at all! They also forgot

I wanted to come here since my partner recommended me the chicken salad. Almost a year later, I could come to try it out. He told me that it was deliciuos as the 1st time he had it and I found it really yummy too.

Also, we had prawn rolls and beef chow mein with vegetables and chinese mushrooms. The chow main was a bit short of mushrooms.

I' ll be back!
