I had my hair done with Afro studio yesterday and honestly I had the worst service ever. I made appointment with the owner and agreed on the price and time, once I got to the store after seen my hair she said I would have to add more money, which I agreed after hearing her reasoning. while getting my hair done the owner was talking bad about my hair the whole time I was getting my hair done she thought I didn't understand her language. she was complaining on how its taking so long to do my hair and kept telling the people who were helping her to do it shorter than what I asked. I want to start by saying, the owner was very nice and patient with all my questions about her hair products. I bought hair from her salon but by the time it came to my appointment, they said I had never called. I got my hair done at another salon, Two months later the hair is matted and tangled. I took accountability and went ahead and bought another three bundles, making sure I take the best care, I’ve had them in my head for a month now and they’re un manageable, pretty much done. I have been going here for years and would not think of going elsewhere. It's always been a struggle to find hair stylists who can care for my hair in Vancouver, very thankful to not have to go through that anymore. Salon is always clean and tidy, also carry a great variety of products for all hair types. Always enjoy chatting with the genuine and friendly team of stylists, who always leave me looking great (can't say enough about how good their braiding is)!

Amazing experience here! I have struggled to find black owned hair businesses in Vancouver. This one is it! Relatively easy to book an appointment by calling and they even followed up the day before with a reminder call, which I appreciated. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. The salon is clean and tidy, I loved their music too. The woman who braided my hair was knowledgeable and so talented. She flawlessly and quickly did 6 cornrows with tiny braids in between each for me. She checked in throughout to make sure I liked the style too. Parking is a challenge but hey, it's a city! Recommend going

Excellent, beautiful work every single time I go here, you can literally never go wrong choosing this place. I’ve been coming here for over a year and a bit now but I never need to go anywhere else. It’s such an amazing establishment and the people there are simply wonderful and masters of their craft! They also have a wide range of products as well. If you need something done, take my word and choose Afro Hair.

I went to this salon for the 1st time and it will be my last...The service is just absolutely terrible! First of all, I called them and was told to come at 5pm. I got there at 450pm and waited since I was a bit early. I did not get any attention until 6pm! The lady who seemed to be the owner kept giving me dirty looks and making comments in her language while pointing at me. She was extremely rude and was very unhappy about the fact that I was getting corn rows (without extension). Secondly, she increased the quoted price without giving me any explanation as to why! Easily one of the best hair salons in BC, very professional, comfortable, and great atmosphere! Husband and wife owned for over 20+ years, and they do all types of hair, all my friends of all different ethnicities go to Afro's. If your lucky you'll come on a day where there's a celeb , I'm constantly seeing celebs at the salon, it's super cool!

I went in yesterday to get a simple all even fade with a beard trim. I wanted to support this blacked owned business. He screwed up on my hair cut and I came back to confront and show him. He said he could fix but at this point I didn't want him to have thing to do with my hair and just simply asked for a refund. Starting using an aggressive tone and I had to remind him not to talk to me like that. Starting getting aggressive again and I had to raise my voice and let him know that you can't treat me like that. After about 20 minuets of arguing his wife finally gave me my money back. Unacceptable

1) They catfished me with the stylist.
2) They lied about the price, and then gaslit me about it.
3) The work was sloppy.
For the last year, I have been growing my hair (the top) with the plan to get dreads. Early on, I talked to my primary barber/stylist about doing it, but he was honest and said it wasn't his forte - so we both researched places in Vancouver. Unfortunately, the most highly recommended person moved to the island and off the grid and a google search doesn't return many results.
The first place I went to for

So I have curly hair. Therefore, years of haircuts have given me a certain perspective on the good, the bad and the ugly. From Emy at Afro Hair Studio, it is all good.
She easily deals with my frizz, curls and gives me a haircut of which I can be proud. No need to wear a hat for weeks. And the products there for my kind of hair are great.
There is not more to say. The shop is easliy accessible on Commercial, the people are warm and welcoming and the styling is terrific. The prices are very, very reasonable.
These are hardworking folks who know how to cut curly, frizzy, hard to manage

This salon was my go-to place for almost 2 years, mainly for braids, and then for relaxers & colours when I went with a different look. My braid service was always right on and perfect.
The service is good, but I guess I was a slow learner when it comes to spotting simply bad, bad, relaxer & colour work.
They need to stay in the braid business and get the hell out of the relaxer & colour business. I know longer go there.

I love this place. I'm extremely picky when it comes to getting my hair done in Vancouver especially since there aren't all that many black hair salons. I've been getting my braids done regularly here for the past year and I'm happy they can always accommodate me and have the products I need without me having to order from the States.
