Since 1997, Image West Hair Design has been serving the Lower Mainland from our Kitsilano location. In 2010 we joined forces with DevaCurl and over time (and a lot of curls!) have become the number one curly hair salon in Vancouver. It is a methodology and series of techniques designed specifically for curly hair. This method creates the most defined, healthy, and frizz-free results. The hair is cut dry, so that our stylists can work with your hair as it lives, allowing the final result to accurately reflect the unique pattern of each curl.

Great experience with my first cut from Katie. She is super knowledgeable and experienced with curls and knew exactly how to approach the cut and style my hair. She did exactly what I asked for (just a trim, still able to tie up in a bun/ponytail), gave good home styling tips and product suggestions.
I didn’t touch or do anything to my hair afterwards and these photos were taken the day after my haircut.

*ATTENTION ATTENTION* If you're going to go in for a Deva Curl Cut here, make sure they actually use Deva Curl products in your hair instead of the low-grade product they used on mine.
In the middle of my wash/style, I noticed that Laia was using another product other than Deva Curl products and I asked her why. She made up some excuse saying that they use other products in the salon, depending on the day.
So I looked it up on the spot and saw that this product was *half the cost* of Deva Curl products, and it turned out crusty and smelling horrible on my hair, so much so that I washed it out

I have seen both Katie and Laia here and have really enjoyed the cuts from both of them. I felt that I had hit a wall with how to style my curly hair and the way they listened and paid attention and also offered suggestions really helped me try something new that I loved! Always very welcoming here. I am newer to Vancouver and am thrilled to have found a place I can trust to give me a cut I love every time.

I saw Katie for 2.5 years while I was living in Vancouver. She is the BEST! She is so thorough and always gives an amazing Deva cut. She also did my highlights and lowlights (pintura) and would make thoughtful recommendations and keep track of what we did last time, or the time before, to get it just right. I never saw someone leave her chair unhappy. Also, Deva cuts and color can be quite long (4-5 hours) and she's kind, engaging, and has an awesome sense of humor. I'm so happy I found Cherie as a stylist because she has shown me how to properly maintain and understand my curls, and her Deva cuts are the best! After years of straightening my hair every day I started to embrace my natural hair because she showed me how to properly style it. Having it cut properly really makes all the difference. Cherie also found the perfect extensions to match my natural curls (which I had been searching for for years). She colour matched and blended them in perfectly. But most importantly Cherie has such high standards for herself, she will never let you leave her chair

Had my hair cut a few months ago by Cheri. She is awesome! She knows how to cut curly hair well and gave tips on how to manage the curls. What makes her stand out is that she genuinely listens to the client and checks that the client is happy with the cut. My haircut has grown out nicely afterward, not into a tree shape as with other places. Highly recommend her, especially for those with curly hair!

I was so excited to find a salon that offered a Deva Cut! I called and was booked with Sherie (within a week, too!). I looked at before and after pictures of Deva Cuts online and honestly had VERY high expectations, hoping for her to somehow save my frizzy, undefined, damaged hair. AND SHE DID.

I walked into Image West originally for some good quality and affordable hair products, of which they sell a fantastic variety. When I was there, I met Cherie, who is not only the queen of hairdressing as I discovered, but a really wonderful person. I came here for my first curly (Deva curl) haircut. I saw Cherie who was so sweet and knowledgeable. She made an effort to listen to what I want and like. She also walked me through how to effortlessly style my curly hair. I am still in awe of how good my hair looks with little product! My curls were so soft and light, yet big, bouncy, and frizz-free! I've been a client at Image West for the past 4 years. I got so lucky to find this salon and the stylist that cuts my hair, Mim. Everyone at the salon is lovely, helpful and non-pretensious. The prices (and selection) of products they carry is unmatched anywhere.

Cherie took my lifeless curls and brought them back to life!!!! I called after googling "Best curly hairstylists vancouver" and then reading her yelp reviews. My hair was so damaged after being bleach blonde for over a year (naturally Black) so I had enough. I called and she happened to have a cancellation ! Lucky for me !!!! Im so happy with my cut, refreshed curls. She also taught me how to use the products I already had from Devacurl which I really appreciate.

I had my very curly fine hair cut by Mim two days ago. Previously, I had been having my hair cut twice a year in LA (!!!) which was quite the expensive haircut given I live in Vancouver. I was totally nervous, but Mim was a dream to deal with, and I LOVE my cut. Curly fine hair is a challenge but he absolutely nailed it. I'm sooo glad I found him on Yelp. As a curly-haired girl on the west coast, it was definitely an adjustment for my hair to adapt to the rainy weather here in Vancouver. I was happy to find Image West (and Katie!) on the Deva Curl website, and booked an appointment. The staff on the phone were friendly and accomodating (easy to book a weekend appointment, a huge plus), and Katie was great! She listented to my requests, and did a great cut while giving product advice (without being pushy at all!). I went here for a cut and a week later came back for highlights/ombre colour. Both appointments were above and beyond anything else I've experienced at a salon. The stylist took his time during both visits, and was very knowledgeable about how to treat with my fine yet curly hair. The conversation was also great (never forced, interesting topics of conversation, etc.). Normally when I get anything done to my hair it's the same amount of stress as going to the dentist (probably because things never seem to turn out the way I had imagined). Mim is the absolute BEST stylist for curly hair!! He is very patient, very experienced and knowledgeable. Strangers stopped me to comment on how much they liked my haircut.
Mim uses the Deva line of products, which were designed for curly hair and are fantastic for my curly-kinky hair. These gentle products have really made my hair less dry and frizzy and enhanced the curls. I like my curly hair for a change!
The store carries many products but, unlike some salons, there is no pressure put on you to buy. The salon is very friendly and low -key and more reasonably priced than many others.
